Review & Giveaway: Geek Gear’s November World of Wizardry Unboxing

by Lucy O'Shea · December 6, 2018

November means only one thing: It’s time for the festive edition of the World of Wizardry box from Geek Gear! There were some great holiday-themed items in this month’s box, so make sure to take a look at our reviews before scrolling down to enter to win one of three boxes in December.

The following is included in each monthly box:

  • One wizarding world–themed T-shirt
  • One exclusive print
  • Four other wizarding world–themed and officially licensed products
Lucy's Review – Hufflepuff

This month's World of Wizardry box was a holiday box, and there were certainly some cute festive items included. The T-shirt is a great alternative to a Christmas sweater, although I'll need to layer it with a long-sleeve shirt if I want to wear it in the UK in December! The House stocking and exclusive greeting cards are the other festive-themed items in the box. The illustrations on the greeting cards are so beautiful. Rather than give the cards to friends or family, I'm going to frame them and incorporate them into my home and office decorations.

As usual, there were two recipe cards included in the box. One criticism I have of the World of Wizardry box is that the recipes for meals often involve an essential meat ingredient, which can be difficult to substitute for the same effect. However, in this recipe for Kreacher's French onion soup, the stock and Worcestershire sauce could easily be swapped for vegetarian alternatives.

Finally, this box also contained a number of more collectible items, including a magical creature egg, which shows an Occamy hatching, and a limited-edition numbered wizardry coin (I received number one of the silver Hufflepuff coins). Overall, I'm pleased with this month's box. Although not overly festive, the items we did receive are great for incorporating Potter into your holiday celebrations.

Megan's Review – Slytherin Box

When I initially saw the holiday sticker on this month's Geek Gear box, I thought, "oh boy, here we go." I, personally, am not a holiday person. Putting those feelings aside, I actually did enjoy this box.

In particular, I really liked the "holiday sweater" Hogwarts House shirts. While I do wish they were actual sweaters, they are still very cute and do give off a good illusion of actually being knitted. I'm a little over the keychains since there seems to always be one in these boxes and there are only so many keychains my lanyard can hold! It is a cute keychain for anyone looking to make their keys a bit more magical, though.

The Occamy egg is very cute, and I will definitely be putting it on my desk at work next to my basilisk Funko Pop. I wasn't really sure what to do with the collector's coin. It's not something I would go out of my way to collect, but again, still a cute item for any Potter merch collector. I don't have much use for pins, either, but the "Potions Master" pin is very well-made and would be great for any Snape or Slughorn cosplayer!

I wasn't lying in my video. I definitely will be using that little Slytherin stocking for my cat. It's perfect holiday decor and just the right size for little kitty gifts.

The holiday cards are beautifully done. Now I just have to decide which of my friends I will send them to!

Lizzie's Review – Gryffindor Box

I've not been feeling very Christmassy yet, so this box arrived just in time to get me in the Christmas spirit. Seeing the little Gryffindor-themed stocking poking out definitely helped to warm up my Christmas spirit. The two beautifully designed Christmas cards are going to cause a dilemma – who on earth is going to get these?? There's going to be a fight over these for sure. I really liked how strong the House theme was in this box, and it's definitely the highlight of this subscription.

Now it’s your turn to experience the magic from Geek Gear’s World of Wizardry! Enter our contest below for your chance to win one of three December World of Wizardry boxes. The contest will be open worldwide from December 6 through December 19 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Winners will get to choose their T-shirt size and House, so go forth and enter for your chance to win a box and rep your Hogwarts House pride!
