There’s plenty to celebrate in the first Casting post of 2019! Put on your dancing shoes and help us celebrate in this Potter-centric edition. Castium Revelio!

It might have escaped your notice due to the holidays, but Dame Maggie Smith (Minerva McGonagall) celebrated her birthday on December 28. Her fellow cast members from Downton Abbey wished her well, including a new cast member from the upcoming film continuation of the series. Harry Potter Cast & Crew

Netflix released new photos from the highly anticipated new season of The Crown, featuring Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) as Princess Margaret. Bonham Carter takes over the role from Vanessa Kirby, who previously portrayed the younger version of Princess Margaret in the first two seasons of the show.

The new season is slated for an early 2019 release on Netflix.

Dawn French (the Fat Lady, Prisoner of Azkaban) recently appeared on Sky One to talk about the third season of her sexy series, Delicious. French portrays chef Gina Benelli, who finds herself still having an affair with her married ex-husband, Leo, a successful hotelier who has stolen many of her recipes to build his own career as a celebrity chef. Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) is just about as cool as we always thought he was. As announced this week, Oldman has lent his voice to narrate the David Bowie mobile app, and he felt honored to have done it:

This brings the amazing David Bowie Is exhibition to a wider audience. It’s great that his fans get to experience it. It was a privilege to be involved.

Available starting on January 8, the David Bowie Is augmented reality app allows fans access to the David Bowie Is exhibition's costumes, videos, original works of art, and hand-written lyrics that had previously been on display up until July of 2018. Included in this new virtual reality version of the exhibition will be new and never-before-seen items that are exclusive to the app. You can check out the full press release here.

Oldman will also be returning to an award-winning role. The news broke on New Year's Eve that Oldman would once again play Winston Churchill, a role that earned him an Oscar after 2017's film Darkest Hour. He revealed his plans for two Churchill projects in a Radio 4 interview for Today:

I've only scratched the surface. I think that there's another chapter here. Maybe a movie, maybe something on television.

The second project is a short story written by Churchill in 1947, in which the author is visited by his father's ghost, and he must attempt to explain all that has happened to him in the years since his father has passed.

I've been working with Randolph [Churchill's great-grandson] and I've adapted, with their kind permission, the short story 'The Dream.' I've been talking about maybe doing it as a sort of two-hander onstage.

Dame Emma Thompson (Sybill Trelawney) is starring in BBC One's political drama Years & Years as Vivienne Rook, a member of parliament (MP) who is branded by series creator Russell T. Davies as "one of that new breed of politician - an entertainer, a rebel, a trickster and a terror." The six-part series is due to air on BBC One in the United Kingdom and on HBO in the United States. Here's the series synopsis and a first look at Thompson in her role as Vivienne Rook:

As Britain is rocked by unstable political, economic and technological advances, we follow the Lyons family as their complex lives converge on one crucial night in 2019. Then, over the next 15 years, the twists and turns of everyday life are explored as we find out if this ordinary family could ever change the world.

Another first look this week from the BBC brings us brief glimpses of the new fare to be found on the network in 2019, and it features some very familiar faces. In the preview, we see the clips from the second season of Killing Eve, starring Fiona Shaw (Petunia Dursley) and Henry Lloyd-Hughes, who portrayed Roger Davies in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (he's in only one Killing Eve episode, darn it!), which will premiere on April 7 on BBC America. We also see the newest season of Peaky Blinders as well as the new psycho-thriller series MotherFatherSon, starring Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy) as Kathryn alongside Ciarán Hinds (Aberforth Dumbledore) as Walter. Kelly Macdonald (the Grey Lady) is also featured in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it clip as Sarah in Girl/Haji, which tells the story of a detective from Tokyo coming to London in search of his missing brother, who has been accused of murder.

Other dramas listed near the end of the preview that feature previous Potter cast members are Gentleman Jack, which tells the story of Anne Lister, who returns to Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1832, determined to transform the fate of her faded ancestral home, Shibden Hallstars, and stars Gemma Jones (Poppy Pomfrey) as Aunt Anne Lister; a new version of The War of the Worlds that will feature Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley) as an artilleryman; The Dublin Murders, which we told you about last month and stars Killian Scott from the C.B. Strike series; Summer of Rockets, a television miniseries following a Russian inventor and his family living Britain after the Cold War, starring Timothy Spall (Peter Pettigrew) as Lord Arthur Wallington, Dame Maggie Smith's son Toby Stephens as Samuel, and Keeley Hawes from The Casual Vacancy as Kathleen Shaw; and a television miniseries version of Les Misérables that features David Bradley (Argus Filch) as Gillenormand and Henry Lloyd-Hughes as Pontmercy.
