“Crimes of Grindelwald” and Alfonso Cuarón Score BAFTA Nominations

by Lucy O'Shea · January 9, 2019

Awards season is upon us again, and with last year’s release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, plus other Potter alumni projects, we have a lot to keep an eye on! The BAFTA nominations were announced this week, with both Crimes of Grindelwald and Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma picking up nominations.

The impressive visuals of the wizarding world franchise have once again been recognized. Much like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, 2018’s Crimes of Grindelwald has been nominated for both Production Design and Special Visual Effects.

Roma is carrying on its success from the Golden Globes, in which it won Best Director – Motion Picture (Alfonso Cuarón) and Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language. Across the pond, Roma has been nominated for six BAFTAs, including Best Film and Best Director.

And finally, composer Alexandre Desplat (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2) has been nominated in the category for Best Original Music for his work on Isle of Dogs.

The awards ceremony will take place on February 10 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Check out the list of wizarding world alumni nominations below!
