Seven Things We’d Do with Harry’s Fortune

by Monet Polny · May 20, 2019

We couldn’t be happier that Harry inherited a fortune from his family, but what if we could use it? There are many exciting things to spend money on in the wizarding world. You could purchase Quidditch robes, prank toys at Zonko’s Joke Shop, or all the candy at Honeydukes! If we had a vault at Gringotts, these are just a few things that we would purchase.

1. Unlimited Butterbeer

It is a truth universally acknowledged that butterbeer is the superior beverage compared to all other magical drinks. The warm, buttery flavor is a comforting thing, and it’s easily the most wonderful magical drink to ever exist. With Harry’s immense wealth, he can probably buy a pint of the drink whenever he wants. To have a lifetime supply of butterbeer guaranteed would ensure that every shopping trip in Diagon Alley and every walk in Hogsmeade would be perfect!

2. A Library of Spellbooks

If we had Harry’s fortune, we’d build a library-sized collection of all the magical books ever written. As Potterheads, we’d be eager to read Basic Hexes for the Busy and Vexed, The Standard Book of Spells, and Jinxes for the Jinxed to learn the basics of magic. When we were ready to do some fun reading, we’d purchase copies of Why I Didn’t Die When the Augurey Cried, Men Who Love Dragons Too Much, Magical Water Plants of the Highland Lochs, and even Charm Your Own Cheese if we wanted to try some magical cooking. Maybe we could even find a subscription to Which Broomstick! As a bonus, with this library, Hermione would be sure to visit us!

3. Exotic Magical Pets

Although we’d never condone raising a dragon in your home or adopting a Niffler, there are plenty of legal magical animals that you can own. If we had Harry’s fortune, it’s guaranteed that we’d build a zoo of animals in our backyard. There are the owls, cats, and toads, but there are also Kneazles, Puffskeins, phoenixes, salamanders, and Pygmy Puffs. These exotic animals would be more difficult to handle, but they are able to be domesticated and a capable wizard could handle them. With Harry’s fortune, we’d likely turn into Newt Scamander and rescue every animal we found!

4. Quidditch World Cup Tickets

What’s better than front-row seats at the greatest sporting event there ever was? There are numerous reasons to buy tickets to a Quidditch match. The mascots are hilarious, the players are exciting to watch, and the other fans are just as obsessed as you are. Also, you can buy little trinkets at the event, such as figurines of the players – when Ireland competed, there were even dancing shamrock hats. There’s something for everyone at this event!

 5. A Magical Vacation

Harry didn’t have much time to travel while he was attending Hogwarts, but we would love to visit the wizarding world that exists outside of Great Britain. Since we don’t know that much about wizarding life outside of Europe, we have limited vacation spots to choose from. Yet we do have an idea of the magical places out there, such as a wizarding community in Egypt. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the Weasleys took a vacation there. Egypt is rich with ancient magical culture, including the pyramids. This hotspot would be ideal if you enjoy learning about wizarding history. Maybe you’d even spot some creatures native to this region, such as a phoenix or a Fwooper. If we had Harry’s fortune, we’d travel all over the world to see what magical life is like everywhere!

6. All the Quidditch Accessories

Source

If you’re waiting for tickets to the next Quidditch game, you’d better buy everything from Quality Quidditch Supplies right now. There are posters of our favorite Quidditch players (like Viktor Krum) and our favorite teams (like the Holyhead Harpies). There are fun items to purchase here as well as practical ones. Also, there are enough uniforms, broomsticks, and Golden Snitches for every player out there. Even if you’re not a Quidditch fan, the shop is an exciting place to spend your time or buy a present for a friend.

7. Enchanted Socks for Dobby

Source

Most of the items on this list were gifts that we’d buy for ourselves, so it would be a treat to buy something for a friend. Harry has bought socks for Dobby before, but we’d go all out! Harry has previously bought socks for our favorite house-elf at Gladrags Wizardwear, so that’s where we would start our search. There are shops in several locations, so if we wanted to buy Dobby a souvenir in Paris or London, we’d visit the Gladrags locations there. With Harry’s fortune, we’d buy Dobby the craziest socks that only he would wear!

So many fans visit King’s Cross Station to take pictures of Platforms 9 and 10 that the station management erected a sign that says “Platform 9 3/4,” which, in the Harry Potter books, is invisible to Muggles but acts as a gateway for witches and wizards.
