Social Media Roundup: The Importance of Memory

by Shelby Dale DeWeese · May 5, 2019

It’s time for a new edition of Social Media Roundup. In this edition, wizarding world favorites honor and celebrate cherished memories, including past roles and lost loved ones. We offer strength and support to all who are experiencing grief. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we encourage anyone who is struggling (with grief or otherwise) to seek help. It’s also a lovely month to check out MuggleNet’s newest podcast, Behind the Veil, which examines how and why Harry Potter has been such a source of strength and solace for so many fans.

Dracula met Dracula when Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) was spotted with Luke Evans. Oldman played the title role in Bram Stoker’s Dracula in 1992, while Evans took on the role of Vlad in 2014’s Dracula Untold.

Caroline Fevrier has studied and memorialized much of the career of Dame Maggie Smith (Minerva McGonagall) in her new book, Maggie Smith: A View from the Stalls. Fevrier posted this video of Smith during the curtain call of A German Life.

Meanwhile, Jessica Williams (Eulalie Hicks) spoke out about her journey with grief in a poignant and vulnerable Instagram post.

Jared Harris, son of Richard Harris (Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter Movies 1 and 2) also posted about grief. He shared a sweet #ThrowbackThursday photo of himself with his father.

Who is the voice you hear whispering in your head? Advising, cajoling, joking around? I miss my Father every day. Thank you, @dahliaheyman, for this wonderful picture of Dad & I. I love it. ❤️ https://t.co/PrFMJYECje#ThrowbackThursday#TeamHarris#TBT pic.twitter.com/KOuZJs7vDw

Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown) also paid tribute to a lost family member.

We’re taking a moment to honor the accomplishments and acknowledge the losses of these wizarding world community members. We’ll see you in a couple of weeks for another Social Media Roundup.
