The Wait Is (Almost) Over: Shows and Movies That Finally Have Release Dates

by Aly Kirk · July 31, 2020

We have talked about the cancellation of so many events, movie releases, and productions in the past months. But today, we’d like to bring you some good news about when some of those things are finally coming out. News about The Third Day, Tenet, Castlevania, and more has been published, and here is everything you need to know about it all. Let’s get started!

HBO is debuting a new show, The Third Day, starring Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) as Sam. Sam finds himself on an island off the English coast, and its residents are not what Sam expects. The miniseries is split into two parts, with Law being featured in the first part, titled Summer. The initial release date was expected back in May but has since been pushed to September 14. It will air on both HBO and HBO Max. The second part, Winter, stars Naomie Harris (Skyfall, Collateral Beauty), Helen, who finds herself in a similar situation on the same island as Sam. The Third Day also stars Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein in the Fantastic Beasts film series), Emily Watson (Chernobyl, The Book Thief), Freya Allan (The Witcher), and more.

Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s latest time-twisting movie, has been through a roller coaster of new and rejected release dates. However, on the bright side, it has been decided that Tenet will be in select theaters throughout the United States on September 3. There isn’t much word after that, but it’s been rumored that AMC theaters will be the lucky recipients of the movie seeing as they are scheduled to reopen around the same time. The select cities still haven’t been chosen either. States like New York have seen COVID cases beginning to stabilize, while other states like California, where theaters remain closed, are still getting new cases daily. Tenet stars John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman, Monsters and Men), Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), Sir Kenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart), and Clémence Poésy (Fleur Delacour).

Season 4 of Castlevania has been announced from Netflix. The anime-style show is based on the video game of the same name and is about a group of vampire hunters trying to rid the world of blood-sucking evil. The plot of the fourth season has been called unpredictable since the previous seasons followed so many story lines. While the cast of Season 3 will be coming into the next part of the show, new voices will also join the cast. Bill Nighy (Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour) has been cast as Saint Germain for the season. Castlevania Season 4 will be on Netflix in 2021.

Netflix has also announced, in a tweet, the release of a psychological thriller called The Devil All the Time. Expected to be available for streaming on September 16, 2020, it stars Tom Holland (the MCU’s Spider-Man, The Impossible), Bill Skarsgård (Deadpool 2, Allegiant), Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley), and Sebastian Stan (the MCU’s Bucky Barnes, The Martian). The movie is based on the book of the same name by Donald Ray Pollock. It’s set in Ohio in the 1960s and follows the stories of soldiers grappling with the significant psychological damages of World War II.

Netflix, arguably the king of creating original content, is releasing Mank later this year. The movie stars Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), Amanda Seyfried (Les Misérables, Mean Girls), Lily Collins (Love, Rosie, Mirror, Mirror), and Tom Burke (Cormoran Strike in the Strike TV adaptation). Mank is a biopic around the making of Citizen Kane, Orson Welles’s classic film from 1941. A specific date hasn’t been announced yet, but it is expected to hit Netflix in October.
