Social Media Roundup: Welcome to 2021!

by Sarah Wylde · January 10, 2021

Welcome back! It is time once again to check in and see what some of the Wizarding World stars have been up to in the latest edition, and first of 2021, of MuggleNet’s Social Media Roundup! During the first two weeks of January, there were New Year messages with hopes for a better year, interesting and fun podcast episodes, new family members welcomed, and health scares.

After the troublesome year that 2020 was, Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) acknowledged those struggles. This coming year will be difficult, but remember to wear your masks, look for gratitude, and do what you can to make things better.

2020 has been heartbreaking for many, challenging for others. Hate, selfishness and fear were everywhere. But love, kindness and hope eclipsed them. 2021 won't be easy: I wish all of us a daily hit of gratitude for life, the people we love and opportunities to make things better.

— Jason Isaacs (@jasonsfolly) January 1, 2021

If things continue to get worse – as they definitely will for a while – then the very least we must demand is honesty from the people making decisions about our lives and humility from ourselves in the face of science. None of us are exceptional. Except Prince. He was the shit.

— Jason Isaacs (@jasonsfolly) January 1, 2021

Raising his glass, Ron Perlman (Gnarlak) looked forward to better things in the new year.

Pointing out that 2021 is the product of two prime numbers, Stephen Fry rang in the new year.

Happy New Year, fellow passengers. 2021 – not a prime number, but the sum of two primes. Is that lucky? Let’s decide that it is …

Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) reminded fans to smile.

Also getting better after spending some time in the hospital was Samantha Morton (Mary Lou Barebone). In her post, she thanked the hospital staff and fans for their well-wishes.

Thankyou to all the A and E staff at the Conquest who helped me tonight. I’m so grateful for our NHS,to see the red zone first hand and the nurses and doctors being so kind and wonderful to us all was humbling. I’m ok tonight because of them. #SaveOurNHS #WearAMask #COVID19

— Samantha Morton (@samthesparrow) January 5, 2021

I’m on the mend. I’ll get there and thank you so much for the well wishes 🕯🙏🦋 #SaveOurNHS #WearAMask

— Samantha Morton (@samthesparrow) January 5, 2021

Oliver Phelps (George Weasley) thanked front-line workers for all they have done since the pandemic has worsened.

Just a shout out to all front line workers right now.
You guys are heros & don't forget it. 🙂

— Oliver Phelps (@OliverPhelps) January 6, 2021

Warwick Davis (Professor Filius Flitwick) returned to Twitter after taking time off to reflect after his friend passed away before Christmas.

‘Ive taken some time out from Twitter to appreciate what is really important in life. Family, friends and health. The passing of my friend and #Star Wars alumni, #JeremyBulloch just before Christmas brought all this into sharp focus. I hope you are all keeping safe and well x

Joining Oliver and James Phelps (Fred Weasley) on a new episode of their podcast, Normal Not Normal, was friend and fellow Harry Potter star Katie Leung (Cho Chang).
