Warner Bros. Hopes to Develop More “Harry Potter” Series

At a conference hosted by Bloomberg last week, Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff discussed some of the company’s business strategies heading into 2022. The Hollywood Reporter notes that, while some of these plans were in relation to handling theatrical releases amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarnoff also mentioned something that is sure to have fans of the Wizarding World franchise excited: Warner Bros. would like to develop even more Harry Potter series.

We would love to develop more original Harry Potter series, and we regularly talk to J.K. Rowling and her team. It’s got to be right, though. Whatever we do has to be true to the canon and true to the ethos of the Wizarding World and who Harry is.

Does this mean that fans could expect to see more television series set outside of the Wizarding World universe, in the vein of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses, a competition between teams of fans? There’s also the Harry Potter reunion special, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, paving the way for more specials about the Fantastic Beasts films or even the theme parks.

Original content set within the fictional universe of the franchise might also be a possibility, such as how the Fantastic Beasts film series is tied to the Harry Potter film series without being a direct prequel. As it is, many fans have wondered about what a Marauders-era television series might look like. Others have wondered about the possibility of a reboot of the Harry Potter films as a television series of some sort – either with the original cast reprising their roles or with a new, younger cast playing the same set of characters who were portrayed in the films.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Rupert Grint was asked if he would return to the role of Ron Weasley after having filmed Return to Hogwarts.

It’s great to see everyone again; it’s very nostalgic. These films were a huge part of my life, and I’m fond of everyone. But I think it ended at the right time. It was a long time, and it was great fun, and I think … It’s been 10 years since we shot the last one. I have a new perspective; I can appreciate it for what it is: a mad, enormously fun time. As far as another movie, I don’t know. I don’t know, exactly. I love that character; I feel very connected to him, so yeah, I don’t know.
