Musical Magic: Two Tracks from “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” Soundtrack Released

by Adam Poncharoensub · April 3, 2022

To continue hyping the highly anticipated Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, two tracks from the film’s magical soundtrack were released online for all witches and wizards to musically return to the wizarding world.

Emmy and Grammy Award-winning, Oscar-nominated composer James Newton Howard, known to Wizarding World fans for writing the score for both Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, is returning to score the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Last week, two tracks from the upcoming Secrets of Dumbledore soundtrack were uploaded to YouTube, and they’re incredibly reminiscent of the magical wonder that defined the first two Harry Potter films. The nostalgia is strong in these compositions, and we’re already getting sentimental.

The first of the two tracks released is the title track, and it feels like it could play over the introduction of the film. The track opens with a dynamic and bouncy melody of strings that remind us of the hustle and bustle of Diagon Alley. The track delves in and out of quiet, mischievous moments before eventually settling into a soft, comfortable melody as if we’ve finally made it back home. This tune feels as if we’re reuniting with Newt as he tends to his menagerie of magical creatures.

The second track is called “The Room We Require,” and it doesn’t take a troll to figure out what this track is referring to. The trailers have already revealed that we will be returning to Hogwarts and that we will be returning to the Room of Requirement. This tune likely plays over a beautiful establishing shot of Hogwarts Castle because we are treated to the instantly recognizable sweeping horns of “Hedwig’s Theme,” which often introduces the favored magical school. The track stops almost abruptly, segueing into a somber melody, where it’s likely something much more serious is playing on the screen. The composition eventually picks up and transitions into a more adventurous tone, possibly signaling the start of the journey.

And lastly, in a minor but fun marketing move, Warner Bros. has released a new sticker pack to add a little magical flair to our virtual keyboards. The sticker pack features a very cartoony version of Jude Law as young Dumbledore performing a spell and transforming into Michael Gambon’s older Dumbledore, among other things. The Dumbledore stickers are available to download now on iOS, Giphy, and Tenor.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore hits theaters on April 15 in the United States.

What do you think of the two released tracks? Can you imagine a scene where the track would play over? Does the title track feel nostalgic? Let us know in the comments.
