The difference between those who truly love and those who don’t comes down to remorse. We all make mistakes—even Dumbledore. It is the ability to feel remorse for those mistakes that gives us the ability to change and grow in love.
Harry is Dumbledore’s man through and through from the very beginning of the series, where he chooses friendship with Ron over Draco, to the end.
“No, I think you’re like James,” said Lupin, “who would have regarded it as the height of dishonor to mistrust his friends.”
“You could’ve taken anyone!” said Ron in disbelief over dinner. “Anyone! And you chose Loony Lovegood?”
Becoming Harry Potter: The Chosen One ~ In Harry’s sixth year, he is labeled The Chosen One because of a prophecy made when he was a baby….
Becoming Harry Potter: Quick to forgive ~ Harry and Ron have been at odds from page 285 (give or take) to page 358! Harry, bewildered and frightened, turns to his best friend (one of them) for comfort only to receive rejection. And yet, before Ron can even say, “I’m sorry,” Harry forgives him….
Becoming Harry Potter: Impervious to Imperio ~ In his first lesson on the Unforgivable Curses, Mad-Eye Moody (Crouch Jr.) tells the class that, “it takes real strength of character, and not everyone’s got it,” to be impervious to the Imperious Curse. Clearly, Harry has very strong character because he was impervious to Voldemort’s Imperious Curse.
So, how do we, those of us who want to be a bit more like this boy wizard we so admire, develop the strength of character to become impervious? I think we can find the answer, or at least part of the answer, in the words of our favorite Headmaster…
According to Aunt Marge, Harry is bad from the inside out and there is no changing the inside. We Potterheads know better than that. It is our choices that show who we truly are. We all have both darkness and light within. What darkness are you going to turn into light in 2015?
