As with any film or television adaptation of a book that I love, I watched the pilot of “The Magicians” with trepidation. After all, so many great stories are mutilated somewhere between the page and the screen, and I really, really didn’t want “The Magicians” to be one of them. Thankfully, it’s looking like the show is going to be amazing.
It’s Part 3 of our coverage of MuggleNet’s visit to the Vancouver set of Syfy’s television adaptation of “The Magicians,” and you know what that means – it’s time for video interviews! We were given a chance to sit down one-on-one with Arjun Gupta (Penny), Summer Bishil (Margot), and Olivia Taylor Dudley (Alice) to talk magic, Brakebills, and just a little bit of “Harry Potter,” of course.
We’ve already shared with you all the amazing things we saw on our visit to the set of Syfy’s adaptation of “The Magicians” (which premieres January 25!) – now we want to share with you all the amazing things we heard! After we were done touring the sets, we sat down to speak with executive producer Sera Gamble, author Lev Grossman, and several members of the cast, including Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Summer Bishil, and Arjun Gupta!
Since the first book of the trilogy came out in 2009, I’ve been pushing it on basically every person I know, especially if they’re a fan of “Harry Potter”. If you haven’t read the books, they follow Quentin Coldwater, a teenager from Brooklyn, after he discovers that not only is magic real, but he will alsi be attending Brakebills University to study it. So long, Princeton.
It’s still two months until the first season of “The Magicians” premieres on Syfy, but the cast and crew are already making the press rounds, meeting fans and promoting the sure-to-be-awesome pilot. MuggleNet was lucky enough to catch up with executive producers and writers Sera Gamble and John McNamara at New York Comic Con, along with cast members Jason Ralph, Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, and Summer Bishil.
