Alfonso Cuarón, David Heyman win at Australian Academy International Awards

Alfonso Cuarón and David Heyman are set for a successful awards season with their film Gravity, a hit among critics and moviegoers alike. This past Friday, January 10, they won Best Film, and Cuarón picked up Best Direction at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) International Awards.

AACTA president Geoffrey Rush says the awards “recognize our international counterparts, add an Australian voice to international Academy discussion, and celebrate our fellow Australians working internationally.” He also congratulated the winners and nominees and said he is looking forward to see whether the Australian Academy’s international peers will agree with their awards season choices.

We, too, are looking forward to seeing what will happen in the rest of this year’s awards season! As previously reported, Cuarón, Heyman, and a number of other Harry Potter alumni have been nominated for BAFTAs and Golden Globe Awards. The Golden Globes can be viewed this Sunday, January 12, while the most highly anticipated set of nominations, the Oscar nominations, will be announced next week.
