Overheard in London: “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” Rumors!

With the recent announcement that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will show in two parts, fans of the series have been trying to figure out exactly what the play will entail. We’ve seen suggestions that the Cursed Child will be Harry himself (Yes, please!), Dudley Dursley, and even Tom Riddle.

In a wonderful (for us!) turn of events, one of MuggleNet’s London staff members was riding the tube today, minding her own business, when she overheard a conversation that made her ears perk up. This may be information that turns out to be true, or it could be a tale worthy of Beedle the Bard. We’ll let you decide.

According to our staff member, two male actors sat across from her on her way home. One of the actors, whom we have been told looks exactly like she imagined Harry might appear (skinny with scruffy black hair), proceeds to tell his friend that he had auditioned for the new Harry Potter play. Attributes for those auditioning were described as needing to be aged 21 years or younger, with a height under 5’7″. Actors would also need to be available for six weeks of workshops, eight months of rehearsals, and possibly an eight-month show run.

Another tidbit from this tube conversation was the audition the actor gave. He told his fellow actor that he had to fake a driving scene and knew just where his voice should break. No doubt, this actor was a massive Harry Potter fan!

Whether the scene he performed is a piece from the Cursed Child script or the Ron and Harry scene from the films, we don’t yet know. The script is bound to be kept super secret, so it remains to be seen if that piece will appear in the play or not.
