Domhnall Gleeson Discusses “Brooklyn”, “Star Wars”, and “The Revenant”

Domhnall Gleeson, who portrayed our very own Bill Weasley, has been keeping very busy as of late starring in three must-see films of 2015. These films include Brooklyn with Saoirse Ronan and Liam Neeson, The Revenant with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, and of course Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.  In Style spoke with Gleeson at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2015 about what he was most excited about for each film.

Brooklyn follows the story of Eilis Lacey (Ronan) as she travels from Ireland to America in the 1950s and must choose between the love she has found in both countries. About Ronan, Gleeson shared,

I’ve run out of superlatives for Saoirse. When we were making the film, I knew she was special, and I knew this performance was going to be special. She is so honest and sweet and true. In the movie, she is in this heightened state of loneliness and sadness and love and everything. I was with her all the way, and it was amazing.

The Revenant, set in 1820s North Dakota, tells the story of Hugh Glass (DiCaprio), who seeks revenge after he is left to die from a bear attack by his friends. About DiCaprio, Gleeson said,

Leonardo is a brilliant actor. Because he’s one of the most famous people in the world, people talk about that. But it would be silly to forget the fact that he’s fabulous and brilliant as an actor. It was great to watch him, especially with the extreme circumstances that we were all in. It was the nature of the shoot. We were out in really cold temperatures and a pretty unforgiving landscape. It was the way everybody wanted to be, so we would struggle. You need to be really tied to people to get through that and that’s what our group became.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens continues the Star Wars franchise 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. When talking about the Star Wars actorsGleeson shared,

I was so in awe of the people from the original trilogy. They were my heroes as a kid. I giggled like a schoolgirl when [Harrison Ford] was around. He’s an amazing ma,n so that was just incredible. I had worked with Oscar Isaac before when we did Ex Machina together. There’s no way to know if fans will be satisfied with this movie; that’s the bitter truth. We put our heart and soul into it. I saw how hard everybody was working on it. I think it’s got a shot.

Brooklyn hits theaters on November 6, while The Revenant will be released on December 25, and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens on December 18.
