With HBP, filming returns to Gloucester
With HBP, filming returns to Gloucester In this article, residents of the English town welcome back, with open arms, film crews intent on filming scenes for the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Scenes from the sixth movie shot at Gloucester Cathedral will include those set in different locations around Hogwarts, and quite a few of the college's students have been cast as extras for them. Interestingly, Gloucester has not been used as a filming location since the first two films were produced:

Gloucester City Council leader Paul James said filming the blockbuster would pump cash into the local economy and put Gloucester on the map.

"It brings excitement to the city," he said. "It also benefits the local economy on two levels. You've got the direct spend of people who come here filming and doing associated things and then when it's aired that Gloucester is being used and people see parts of the city on their screens it puts us on the map."

Thats really good for them. Too bad they don't film in the United States. Well I'm sure they do special effects here and what not but something like that, that'd be awesome. P.S. I don't comment on news all that often, but why did I have to give my address and say no to twenty some-odd "offers" that ask for my information just to say something simple about a news story. This is a fansite I thought, not a business. I know you guys have to make some money but are profits that low where you actually have to stoop so low to the point where you're bombarding the people who voluntarily visit your site with advertisement after advertisement. I don't all that much appreciate it. Woh, ok, rant over.

Posted by tiassa Jan 24th 2008

@Nevera: I don't really remember how it was when I registered but I don't remember what you just said happenning. Are you sure that was obligatory? Any way they are just doing some statics so they could be proud of their site later and (more importently) so that they could maintain the site by advertises. If they want people to choose to sponser mugglenet by advertising on it they need some statics. Anyway, Welcome to the Comment Board! It is rather addictive. Hope to see you around here again.

This must be the hospital wing part after the battle.

Nevera, I just sign in then hit the "back "button on my browser to come back and comment. Thus ignoring the probing questions.

Posted by Nevera Jan 24th 2008

well I already went through the backbreaking process once so hopefully I wont have to go through it all again.

Posted by felixfelicis888 Jan 24th 2008

I'm glad they're going back to this place hopefully, they'll get the hogwarts layout correct, and make it true to the books. I hate how in movies 3-5 they have that stupid bridge to get to hagrids hut. It's nothing like the books. And Nevera, Mugglenet is a bussiness, how do you expect us to pay for all the trips, events, and webspace without being one? It takes a lot of money to run this site.

Posted by tiassa Jan 24th 2008

Im with felix. Why do they have to rebuild Hagrid's hut AGAIN every single time?

Posted by Mattrixed Jan 24th 2008

Did anyone else notice that the quote from the city council leader is a MASSIVE run-on sentence? It's cringeworthy.

Posted by All_Things_Fiction Jan 24th 2008

Posted by Katharineee Jan 24th 2008

Woop. I live in UK. Wish they did some filming up in the north though, where i live. And to the people saying why can't they film in the US- because one of the things JKR requested when she sold it to WB was that it was kept British like the books, British cast, British lingo and British set. You can't expect them to make an all British film with scenes in the US can you. But 3 out of the 5 directors have not been British. I thought Mike Newell did the best and David Yates did the worst.

Posted by Luna_Lover_10 Jan 24th 2008

To Katharineee: David Yates rocks! He did amazing on OOTP and kept as much information as he could in the movies! He's a great director and he's back for HBP! LUV YA YATES!!! **--- Luna ---**

Posted by angelina_johnson92 Jan 24th 2008

Cool. I love movie news. Gloucecter is a great filming location. I agree with Katharineee. Even though I live in the U.S. it wouldn't be the same if they started shooting it in the U.S.

Posted by addicted2chocolatenhp Jan 24th 2008

Whatever else you say about the movies, you have to admit they have really really good sets. The actors aren't all great the scripts either but the sets rock. If they've filmed in Gloucester before, I didn't realize it but I've liked all the sets so far so good for them for going back! yay!

Posted by CROOKSHANKS99 Jan 24th 2008

cool...i just cant wait for the movie =)

Posted by SuzieQ Jan 24th 2008

cool! I'm going to UK this summer, perhaps I'll drop by there! lol. PS - to all of the people who can't seem to understand why they don't film in the US: 1)because it would cost a lot of money to fly the cast and crew over 2)because the US doesn't have very many historical castle-like places, and 3) Its. A. British. Film. duh. right sorry that was kind of harsh i suppose... i know lots of the people who comment on that are just hoping they would (i do too - i live in Canad and it'd be awsome if they came) but to the couple of others who just don't seem to get it... well...

Posted by 1NymphadoraTonks1 Jan 24th 2008

Reading between the lines of Alan Rickmans interview, he said he starts film early February. Perhaps they are filming his scenes at Gloucester next weekend. If that's the case I must make sure I go. I plan on going on Sunday in any case, just to see what going on if anything. It's great to live in Gloucestershire when Harry Potter comes to town!

Posted by oXbeccaXo Jan 25th 2008

I went to the Cathedral today, they've started to set it all up with bits of wood and such! I'm so excited!!! The extras have their fitting on Tuesday and then they film on the 7th and 8th February. So maybe the filming with Dan and the others will happen over the weekend. Either way, I'm going back there as many times as my friends will allow. I'll drag them there if I have to. And the first sentence is wrong at the top...Gloucester is a CITY, not a town. And there are extras from more than just Kings school. Because, before for Philosophers Stone, it was offered to GCSE students taking Drama. This time though everyone is older so they offered it to A Level students taking Drama but there weren't enough people so Kings asked other local schools if they wanted their students to take part and Voila! My friend's an extra. Ooh I'm jealous.

Posted by rooon Jan 25th 2008

Lol! Cool! Love it!

Posted by dogstar01 Jan 27th 2008

oXbeccaXo One of the verger's told me that filming is taking place at night and those bits of wood in the garden are a huge platform for the lights.
