Introducing the 2008 Fan Fiction Meets YouTube Contest
Introducing the 2008 Fan Fiction Meets YouTube Contest UPDATE: By popular demand we have extended the deadline for submissions to May 21st. Several of you requested more time because school is wrapping up now and the previous deadline was too soon.

For all you budding screenwriters and filmmakers out there MuggleNet, Magical Tours, and Alivan's have come up with the perfect contest for you! All you have to do is re-write a scene from any of the seven Harry Potter books, film it on video, and submit it to YouTube. Go HERE for complete contest details.

1st Prize is a complete set of all the British versions of the Harry Potter books – adult covers, boxed and sealed!

2nd Prize is a Majestic Hogwarts School robe, and

3rd Prize is your choice of wands from the Classic or Majestic Collections both from our friends at Alivan's.

Also, Magical Tours has extended the sign-up dates for last-minute guests for the MuggleNet Express Tour. Go to Magical Tours for more details, and to see a new video from the 2008 Magical Tours Intern, Thomas Pardee check this out.

Cool!

Posted by hpintwense06 Apr 28th 2008

Wow, this sounds like a lot of fun! I think it'd be cool to enter, but I'm sure that there are people out there with more professional film stuff than me. I just make videos w/ friends for fun, and the quality isn't the best. Good luck to entrants!

Posted by hpshouse19 Apr 28th 2008

Top 10?

Posted by angelina_johnson92 Apr 28th 2008

Oooo, that's pretty cool.

Posted by ashleyyosaurus Apr 28th 2008

Ooh, this is great! I won't be submitting anything, but I'll definitely participate by watching all the finalists' videos. (:

Posted by echoreyn Apr 28th 2008

Ooh, I wish this wasn't happening during exam time! Oh well, I'm going to try to do my best on it anyway. Does anyone know if we are allowed to use Warner Brothers music from the HP movies?

Posted by J_Dizzle Apr 28th 2008

I think I'm going to skip school tomorrow to start writing the script...and I think I'll stay up tonight re-reading the books to pick a scene... This is gonna be AWESOME!

Posted by pathfinder Apr 28th 2008

MESSAGE FROM MAGICAL TOURS: DO NOT use Warner Brothers music in the video production. We'll all get into hot water! Instead look for Harry Potter-ish music that will make your video more original.

Posted by echoreyn Apr 28th 2008

Good! I was hoping we wouldn't be allowed to use their music. Now we have full reign to be as creative and innovative as we can be! Good luck everyone!

DANIEL RADCLIFFE IS LOOKING FOR A WOMAN FROM THE AFI'S! Earlier last year, Dan attended the AFI (Australian Film Institute) awards in Melbourne, Australia. The awards were presented at the Melbourne Exhibition centre... Dan presented an award for humour, and lately he has revealed that he was staring at a girl the whole time, who stared intently back at him. He's now LOOKING FOR HER!! I don't know the full details, but Rove has been totally taking the micky out of Dan on his show (Rove is a television show hosted on Ch. 10 in Australia, hosted by comedian Rove McManus). Apparently, Dan is speaking to ALL of the Australian press, and asking for help to find his, as Rove says... "MYSTERIOUS WOMAN." Lol that is sooooo funny.

Posted by HPFANTimothy Apr 29th 2008

TO WATCH THE VIDEO ON ROVE WHICH TALKS ABOUT "DAN AND HIS MYSTERY WOMAN," GO TO: http://www.rovedaily.com. au/video.htm. ONCE THE PAGE HAS LOADED, ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE WEBSITE, YOU WILL SEE A BAR CALLED 'Home' WITH A VERTICAL LIST OF THINGS (eg, some of the listed things are - 'Help Me Hughesy!' and 'Roves Monologue'). CLICK ON 'Petespace.' Then watch the video!! It's basically Peter Hellia talking about Dan and his mystery woman, etc etc. It's SOOO FUNNY!

Posted by Carmabelle Apr 29th 2008

Can I enter from Australia or is it just for the USA?

Posted by Bluemint0 Apr 29th 2008

It look pretty much awesome!! I think i'm gonna take part

Posted by Bluemint0 Apr 29th 2008

Can i enter from Algeria?

Posted by raya Apr 29th 2008

Cool! Just two questions: Can we enter from outside the US? and does it have to be real people acting? I mean, can it be an animation, or puppets, or anything else? Thanks, and good luck to everyone who enters!

Posted by Viperousmullein Apr 29th 2008

I predict an overwhelming amount of delusional fans trying to "finally make a scene of how it SHOULD have been". Harry and Hermione shippers ahead! NOOOOO!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! :O

Posted by pathfinder Apr 29th 2008

MESSAGE FROM MAGICAL TOURS: The contest is open to anyone, all ages, and from any country! If your language isn't English, you may use sub-titles. You are free to use whatever suits you for your production: live animation, puppets, thumb puppets, toe puppets, cut-outs (like South Park), a live theater troupe, or a Scout troop. You are free to make it a ballet, opera, mime, or Kabuki. Your actors may be any age from little kids to old age pensioners. And a quick note to hpintwense06: don't underrate your work! You may just do videos with your friends for fun, but we might think they're really good. Go for it!

Posted by Nimbuschick Apr 29th 2008

Dude, if you want them to be good you should give people more than 12 days during the school year. I directed the Grimmauld Project and I'd totally be all over this if I actually had time to organize my group and edit it.

Posted by narglelvr Apr 29th 2008

those prizes rock!

Posted by pathfinder Apr 29th 2008

You see Nimbuschick, we're paying attention! MuggleNet has extended the dates as follows: Video submissions by midnight May 21st; voting on MuggleNet May 22nd - 24th at midnight; winners announced May 25th. Just like magic...

Posted by All_Things_Fiction Apr 29th 2008

WWHHHOOOOOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY DREAM HAS COME TRUE!!! T

Posted by flibbertigibbit Apr 29th 2008

oooh! i wont enter b/c this isnt really my area of talent, but i cant wait to watch these!!

Posted by d0bbyr0cksmys0cks Apr 29th 2008

omg, i can't wait to watch these! harry potter videos made by fans are awesome! yay! xD

Posted by EverettChronos Apr 29th 2008

yeah, there are some formatting issues that need to be cleared up. If possible, I want to do a a series of narrated sequential images much like a storyboard. I also agree that prizes one and three are made of win, two not so much.

Posted by echoreyn Apr 29th 2008

THANK YOU for changing the date! Hopefully, now, I'll be able to make something worth watching. And since everyone else seems to have commented about the prizes, here's my two cents: First Prize - very cool, Second Prize - Awesome!, Third Prize - Awesome! See you on the tiny screen, everybody!

Posted by J_Dizzle Apr 29th 2008

yay more time! I wrote a rough draft today and I'm going to seriously work on it this weekend. Hopefully I will be filming by this time next week. How great is this contest? oh and phoenix_knight, how did I ruin your life exactly?

Posted by hpninjaskills Apr 29th 2008

Whoa, all the prizes are so ... out there! ;) They're really nice and totally awesome. I can't wait to see what people do with this . =) It might be interesting to watch.

Posted by secrets_and_magic Apr 29th 2008

can it be a scene you made up that takes place right after the books ended?

Posted by rooon Apr 29th 2008

Cool! Good luck if you enter! : )

Posted by Devikosas Apr 29th 2008

Honestly, I think the 2nd/3rd prizes are much cooler than 1st place prizes. xD

Posted by pathfinder Apr 29th 2008

ANSWERS TO CONTEST QUESTIONS: To EverettChronos - your "storyboard" approach is certainly within the guidelines. There is no requirement for the video to consist of characters in motion. The entire video may be a dramatic reading by one person or a cardboard cut-out if that's the choice of the film maker. To secrets_and_magic - as long as you can set up the scene to connect to the overall story and provide reasonable context, your scene does not actually have to take place within the pages of the books. It may be a "back story" that explains one or more events in the book(s), or a "post script" which describes events that you feel need expansion or were never mentioned. To Everyone: Try not to get caught up in a thousand "what-ifs". Follow the guidelines furnished regarding content, and you'll be fine. Mainly, BE CREATIVE. If it's not prohibited in the rules (eg. profanity, etc.) you'll be OK. If you think there won't be controversial plot issues in these fan-produced videos, you'd better think again! M-T

Posted by phoenix_knight Apr 29th 2008
