WB responds (a bit) to HBP delay: "We Love Our Fans"
The LA Times has a new article up highlighting how upset fans are at Warner Brother's decision to push back the release of Half-Blood Prince to July 17th, 2009. They spoke with WB president Alan Horn (pictured left) about the matter, who tried to come up with more reasoning:Warner currently is riding high with "The Dark Knight," the Batman film that also stars Bale. The grim super-hero movie has taken in $452 million in the U.S. since its July 18 release, making it the second-highest grossing film ever.
To some degree, that success motivated Warner to shift "Half-Blood Prince," Horn said. The film will now hit theaters the same midsummer weekend that "Dark Knight" was released this year. Horn said the young, core Potter audience would be out of school and give the film a longer theatrical life. It will now open opposite Universal's special-effects comedy "Land of the Lost," which stars Will Ferrell. But Horn said there was nothing next year compared to this summer's especially dense slate of big-budget releases.
The article wrapped up with this quote from Horn: "We would never do anything to hurt one of the movies or the series. We love our fans."

They pulled crap with the Star Trek movie, deciding last winter to release it summer 09 instead of Dec. 08. But, at least that move was made way in advance. THREE MONTHS! We had only THREE MONTHS and they do this to us. Didn't the first two films make the most money, despite being released in November?

Warner Bros. is forgetting some things. 1). In business, bulls & bears make money, but pigs get slaughtered. 2). Children can usually tell when adults are lying to them. Now, Boycott Warner Bros! I hereby make an Unbreakable Vow not to see The Dark Knight or any WB movie in a theater, but wait for a rental so the local business gets my $$! I HOPE WB EAT THEIR WORDS! Out of all the choices that they have made for HP, this is the worst one. HBP would make the same amount of money if it was released at any freaking day of the year. I really hate WB (even thought Dark Knight was fantastic). Why can't Harry Potter be made with New Line Cinema (LOTR) or Disney (Narnia). I have enjoyed the films immensely. They are well done and they win award of honour like Oscars and SAG awards and not People's Choice and Nickelodeon Blimps. Even HP film becomes a disappointment to all of its fans. I mean, OotP just sucked. I wanted more, I tell, you MORE! Finally when I give in and say "By the looks of it, HBP looks like it can beat the other five (My order goes PoA, GoF, OotP, CoS. PS/SS), WB delays the release. If WB Loves their fans, they should have done justice to the books a LONG time ago with giving us a freaking three hour movie for each film like LOTR and Narnia have with Extended Editions of each film and more bonus material. I mean, what WB gives us is just pure crap! I am disgusted. I would Boycot WB if I didn't love HP so much.

I call bullshit, Mr. Horn. Bullshit.....Warner Bros. have screwed over this series a thousand times from day one one and the only hope real Harry Potter fans have at seeing proper movies made is to wait another 30 years until the fans are controlling Hollywood and we can do remakes. Sad to say that great acting from most of the cast will be wasted but then we can finally get what Lord of the Rings had - a proper, respectful representation of JKR's vision.
WB believes the old line: we always hurt the ones we love, cuz they'll forgive us eventually. WB KNOWS they can release the film whenever and make a pot of money from the fans, the bums just want the biggest pot they can get. Its so disgusting how they say it is all about what's best for the "movie." HA!
