UPDATE: The Wall Street Journal has confirmed (free subscription required) that this is legitimate, although they say not all IMAX theaters will have to wait until the 29th. EDIT: As of now, this is NOT confirmed, but we'll keep you posted on official word. While Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be out in theaters July 15, fans will have to wait until July 29 to see the movie in IMAX , according to a report from TV Watch Online. Jeff from TV Watch Online emailed IMAX and got this response: Basically what happened is IMAX Corporation signed a contract with Paramount guaranteeing them a 4 week exclusive window if they filmed parts of Transformers 2 with IMAX cameras onto IMAX film (something that is quite a bit more expensive). Unfortunately that was back when Harry Potter was due to open November 2007 and when Warner Bros. pushed back the opening date Paramount was not willing to renegotiate the contract it had signed with IMAX.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-07 23:00:47

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-07 23:01:05

nooooooooo....... this messes up all my plans :(

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-07 23:05:20

that will affect the conference (srry i forget its name) the one in Cali.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-07 23:15:07

NO! This cant be happening! This would suck! I mean, itd be better for the midnight showing on 7/15, because I can go to a closer regular theatre. But, Im sure my parents wont want to drive me 30 miles away two weeks later to let me see HBP in IMAX! NNOOOOO!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-07 23:18:49

Thats too bad, but I wasnt planning on going to IMAX right away. But unfortunate for everyone else!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-07 23:20:25

If this is true then... Aw, that sucks and my plans are screwed. I guess Ill just not see it in IMAX, then.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-07 23:54:12

Im going to be even more pissed at Warner Bros than I already was if this is true! Freakin ridiculous! From PoA on, I have seen all of them in IMAX at midnight when they were released. I dont have the money to go see it twice and Im sure as hell not waiting 2 weeks to see it in IMAX! They already made me wait 8 months. Warner Bros... you suck!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-07 23:54:45

Gotta love release date changes... weve had so many of them for this film.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 00:14:12

seriously?! Why do they keep doing this! Thisll mess up Azcatraz even more!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 00:41:05

This made me SO NERVOUS when I first saw it! I thought they had moved the whole film. If that had been the case...then I would have been TICKED! But thankfully I still see it on July 15th. I can wait for the Imax version...Im planning on seeing it more than once anyways.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 00:56:36

Hmm well im planning to see HP numerous times anyways. At least 5 times. The first and last time I saw a movie on I-Max, it was The Day The Earth Stood Still, and heck i was hella disappointing, i told my self im never going to i-max again. So im fine, lol =P. The screens too big and ruins the movie. I wanna stick to where the true fans will be watching it; normal V-Screen cinemas =]. Actually im planning to watch it in gold class, v-screen and drive-in. =]

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 01:04:53

TWO OF MY FRIENDS FROM ENGLAND ARE COMING ALL THE WAY FROM THERE TO STAY WITH ME (in california) AND WE WERE GOING TO SEE IT IN IMAX! wth!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know why this makes me mad though? Im taking A LOT of time off of work to hang out with my brittish friends... I work AT A MOVIE THEATRE. Meaning, I get to see movies for free... I most likely would have gotten to see an eomployee showing of it before it came out. But I cant now because of al lthe time Im taking off and I kept telling myself, "Well, Im seeing it in IMAX on opening day anyway. I dont want to see it until we see it in IMAX." NOW I have to PAY to see this movie on opening day at the theatre I work at, while Im supposed to be "recovering" from something! UGH! WBBBBBB!! WTH!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 01:18:36

no No NO!!!! THIS CANT BE HAPPENING!!! HOW AM I SPOSE TO SEE THE MIDNIGHT SCREENING NOW?!?! (Imax is the closest place to me that was gonna have a midnight screening the other places are about 4 hours away) URG!!! I HATE U WB!!! Seriously. You would think that they would know better after they postponed it last time.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 01:25:25

i dont think this is true, because i already bought my ticket for imax on opening night at midnight.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 01:26:16

I found this out today from my local IMAX theater. I even emailed Mugglenet this afternoon about it because I wanted further confirmation if this was true. I also recieved the exact same response from my theater that mugglenet posted. I suspect that Warner Brothers doesnt mind this much since they know that the big HP fans will go see it in the regular theaters when it is released and then go again when it is released in IMAX. Sounds like they didnt do their research when they change their release date last fall or they would have known about the 4 week contract paramount had with IMAX.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 01:26:43

I have never seen a Harry Potter movie in IMAX before and I wanted to go with my brother. Fandango is selling July 15th tickets to the nearest IMAX theatre. Maybe they are wrong. I hope not because I got free tickets to it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 01:30:50

Even if July 19th is our birthday; I would still like to see it when it is released on the 15th.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 01:33:00

This is All WB Fault for changing the release date. If they didnt change it, We would most likely have it on DVD right now!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 01:34:18

I meant our birthday is July 29th.*

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 01:40:06

Well..this sucks. I just dont understand why IMAX wont be able to show it for the midnight showing? I mean, fine, have the contract with Transformers, but I dont think people will go see the movie three weeks later on a Wednesday at midnight. and if they do (while they wont make much), its just one midnight showing. Also, this might backfire at WB, since their whole point of moving it was to make as much money as they can. Just saddens me because my cousin and I made a tradition, and I dont get to see her that often. I just hope they can at least wither share both films, or at least give the harry potter fans one night to enjoy the movie IMAX style.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 02:50:19

will it also be in 3d like ootp?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 05:45:38

I live in Sydney, Australia and according to the IMAX Sydney website we get it on July 15th. http://imax.com.au /films/comingsoon.asp

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 05:51:58

Are we ever going to see this movie!?!?!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 06:20:49

omg. NOOO. that SUCKS. i was so excited to go see it in IMAX. and isnt the IMAX theater the onlyy place anyone can see it with part of it in 3d? because i want to see the 3d part! whatever. F*** that. ill just have to see it twice i guess. if i even have the money for it. warner bros sure knows how to psst us off. ugh.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 06:23:39

No its coming out sooner. Im going to see it in IMAX with my camp on July 25th. :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 07:07:13

This doesent affect me none but I do feel sorry for the people who have too see it in Imax. But the bad thing is for me is that I wont be able to see HBP on opening day I got to wait July 18 cause we had already made plans before they pushed it back 2 days.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 07:54:42

according to the imax theater in Reading Pennsylvania they are showing The Half Blood Prince Tuesday July 14 at 12:01am using the digital projection. As long as they dont change it , Im hoping to see a midnight viewing of the new movie.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 08:48:25

i hope thats no true.....i only go for the imax version!.....weve all been waiting so long to see this movie....hope the wait doesnt get prolonged further :(

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 09:09:37

man!! this totally sucks! i wanted to go see it in imax first thing!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 09:46:02

this isnt wbs fault u guys stop getting so mad at them if u wanna get mad at some1 go pick on paramount for making such a contract its rather rude of them to go book imax completely but n e ways i plan to watch it alot as well cuz i have friends belonging to different pier groups so im often asked to accompany each of them seperately lols i had to watch goblet of fire 7 times in the theatre

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 10:15:45

NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY! I was going to go to IMAX at four in the morning and wait till midnight to see it :[

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 11:03:40

Well tickets for chicago imax havent went on sale yet, so ill just have to wait and see. I see that others have already got their tickets.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 11:04:42

THIS IS JUST GETTING SO ANNOYING. ITS JUST A BIG WARNER BROS MONEY-MAKING SCHEME.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 11:12:59

This isnt affecting me at all, to be safe my friends and I bought tickets for the standard showing at midnight since no IMAX tickets were on sale yet through our theater. Hooray for good planning!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 11:13:09

Do I wait? Do I just not see it in IMAX? AHHHH

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 11:45:39

Oh this is just great [sarcasm]

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 12:27:31

*rolls eyes* well i guess we all saw this one coming

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 13:23:14

"....due to open November 2007" dont they mean 2008

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 13:40:01

If you want to call IMAX headquarters, heres the #: 905-403-6500

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 14:02:58

WB seems to be teetering on the brink here... I mean, HP fans will forgive almost anything. And honestly, you were probably going to all go see it more than once anyway. I know I will. I guess out of the millions of people who will go no matter what, the die-hards are a small percentage. Any sort of acting-out on our parts will just be a fly on their shoulder. *flick* and straight to the bank to make their deposits. :-)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 14:05:59

Man, this sucks.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 14:30:27

I just called my local IMAX theatre here in Denver and the manager said this: The contract between IMAX, Paramount & WB is supposed to be finalized in the next week or so and then well know which IMAX theatres are opening it on July 15th. He also said that like Paramount has done with Star Trek right now sharing screens with Night at the Museum so Star Trek is still showing at 930 and midnight here. He then went on to say that the same thing will probably happen with HP6 and TF2. So TF2 will be exclusive to IMAX till July 14th at midnight, then share the screens with HP6. So HP6 should be opening on July 15th in IMAX but only have screenings until 9pm where TF2 will air the rest of the night. HOpefully this is the case everywhere. Well know more soon.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 14:39:48

thats cool thats cool i promised myself long ago that i would only see a potter film in iMax for DH part 2 ba da BUMMMMMMM

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 14:48:42

HAHA! THIS IS QUITE FUNNY, TO BE HONEST. Seeing all you guys get soo WORKED UP and ANGRY at the IMAX, when you can easily see it in theatres.. I havent gone to the IMAX since i was a little kid, and that was a school field trip, theres no IMAX where i live so i could CARE LESS. BUT i do wanna see DH Part 1 in Imax, or at least a Regal Theatres! Maybe u guys should quit making all these plans as if this is the last HP film and enjoy this.. and QUIT blaming WB, its not their fault, its Paramount, theyre the ones who sign the contracts for IMAX

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 16:05:35

No, thats not fair. I was planning on seeing the movie in reg. theaters when it came out and then in IMAX the following week when I would be going to a place that has an IMAX theater.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 16:20:03

ughh wth WB? They just keep pushing our buttons....i just realized something....if the movie came out on its original date wed have the dvd now. ughh this movie BETTER be good.....

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 17:27:04

this blows! i was really really looking forward to seeing this on opening night at imax for the first time (it would be the second time to see it on opening night ever, since i couldnt for ootp). im so disappointed. of course ill go see it at a regular theater instead but its just not the same.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 17:28:14

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ! I AM SO ANG... happy actually, cant we all just, get along :) lol

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 18:07:36

That sucks. Hopefully less people will see it in IMAX and they will get what they deserve. Not a smart move.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 18:30:32

omg idc =]] now i get to see the movie in both reg theatres and now IMAX! lulz at least now i no when =]

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 18:40:26

Bubbatwo I hope thats the case. You would think they would have solved this Problem earlier though. Either way Im good though.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 18:42:39

THIS STINKS! I mean, I was totally looking forward to seeing HP6 in IMAX opening night, because I have never gone to the new IMAX theater near me, and I was going to finally see it! Ehh.... well, at least its a good excuse for me to see HP6 twice now!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 19:04:50

Great! Another anxious WB moment....just what we all need. Jeez these people need to straighten out their act!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 19:14:11

im not going to be at home when hbp comes out so i dunno if theres an imax where well be. sigh... not being at home = not seeing it with my friends. oh well, its fun to see it regular anyway.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-08 21:26:18

they love delaying half blood prince, dont they?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-09 00:26:19

F%#K transformers we waited too long! it will also not make any profit in imax by then so imax and wb should deal with it and stop messing with us

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-09 00:33:12

thi isent really wbs fault imax should have said something to the producers before the started selling the tickets

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-09 03:07:36

phoenixknighter- Im worked up because A) I work at a theatre and Im supposed to be gone so I cant see the movie at the theatre I work at. I ccant even go to the employee showing for free which is sooner than the release date. So I kept saying to myself, "Im seeing it in IMAX with my friends who are coming to visit from 8,000 miles away. Seeing it IMAX 3D. Seeing it in IMAX 3D. WAY better than at work..." but nope. Thats not the case anymore. and B) Im getting a serious surgery done on July 29th... I cant see it then either! and Im recovering for 2 weeks after that! So yeah. This really messes up my plans and ticks me off.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-09 03:32:23

how anyone can blame warner brothers for this baffles me - did you bother to actually read the article? wow, release date changes. grow up please. even if this was warners decision, it would be the right one. most harry potter fans will see the movie more than once anyways, and this will ensure that all the non-diehards (who they should be focusing on) will come see it again in imax after theyve seen in during its first two weeks. i would only support that decision. patience is virtue. and life is a lot harder than having to adjust to harry potter release dates. whine about something that matters.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-09 08:05:26

Oh well I was planning on seeing it he normal theater anyways...atleast at the midnight release. But Im definitely still going to see it in Imax! SO EXCITED!!! Only 37 DAYS TO GO!!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-09 08:41:40

hi i would just like to defend paramount as Paramount had locked in the date for Transformers 2 a while ago, and signed a deal with IMAX to have it shown exclusively for 4 weeks on their screens if Michael Bay and company shot scenes with the IMAX technology. They did, and all was well. That is, until Warner Brothers pushed back the date for Harry Potter from a 2008 release date to Summer 2009, opening July 15th. That conflicts with the exclusive window for IMAX that Paramount had set in stone for ages (4 weeks from opening), and therefore Harry Potter will not begin IMAX showings until July 29th now most of the text was taken from http://www.tfw2005.com/tr ansformers-news/transform ers-movie-just-movie-31/w arner-brothers-mucks-up-h arry-potter-imax-dates-pa ramount-ftw-167870/

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-09 10:03:33

Hi, i have come here to give a few words from the other side of the argument, that is, the transformer fans. have you all considered that this might be a good thing? sure i am sorry for all you you that their plans were ruined cause WB made a retarded move. yes they alone are at fault. but here me out. Maybe it is a good thing that it got pushed back cause really, any movie that is going to go up against Revenge of the fallen is going to get beaten severally at box office. When the first transformer movie came out, you had to go at least and hour or two early to buy tickets before they sold out. it grossed $700 million the first time, and it is said to gross even more this time. it is projected to gross $170 million is just 5 days. It is WBs fault for trying to fight ROTF, dont blame paramount and dont blame the transformer fans either, i have heard of a report of some potter fans cussing out transformer fans for this reason, and it aint right. anyways, i love harry potter, i love the books and i love all the movie thru the 4th one (the fifth one, sadly, was boring, hopefully this one will be different). thank you for the time and i hope everything works out for all of you folks

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-09 10:09:16

i also like to appolagize for some of the transformer fans in that link, some dont think straight when posting, the majority of us folks are good, dont let a few bad apples ruin your image of us again i hope it all works out

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-09 10:28:42

i would also like to agree with pauljackson that some of the fans are not thinking stright, and i must say that the books are much better than the movies. :]

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-09 11:08:37

What does this mean for Azkatraz then?! Hopefully they can still show it on the 17th! :(

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-09 20:43:03

oh sorry about that ginmo. Anyway i dont really have anything to say, since ill still be watching it in theatres

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 06:05:04

Rubbish! cant believe it! Simon

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 21:33:46

thats such a bummer. i was planning on watching it at midnight in the theaters and then hitting the imax that afternoon...
