| Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince continues to put up impressive numbers at the box office. The sixth installment has made $159.7 million domestically since its Wednesday night opening, and added another $237 million worldwide. This brings Potter's total to an impressive $396.7 million in just five days. Compared to its predecessor:
The sixth movie about the young wizard came in $20 million ahead of the last movie, 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,' which grossed $139.7 million domestically in its first five days two years ago.
The film had the second-highest start ever for a movie premiering on Wednesday.

Wow! I think it deserves this figure because its been the best one yet.
I wonder how much money it will make altogether?
|
Posted by: Zoeyy
Crazy days! Those figures are AMAZING.
Im planning on seeing it at least one more time, and once again at IMAX 3D.
Woah.

yay :D I am so happy...I hope it beats Transformers but may I ask why are we even comparing them? Theyre two different genres of movies??
|
Posted by: Hpintwense06
Wow, thats so awesome!! Go Potter fans! And thejazzmusician, thats a really good point! I am definitely going to see it in IMAX, and Im sure many others are going to, also! :)
|
Posted by: Shlesha Pandey
No, no, no. Half Blood Prince has already beaten Transformers 2. Worldwide it has. Domestically, transformers beat it for the 5-day opening, but worldwide, Harry Potter has the spot. :)
|
Posted by: Iwantorlando05
WOW!!! Thats wicked!! I think Im going to go see it again today!!! Yay!! THis is so exciting!! Finally a GOOD movie is earning money. Transformers 2 was the WORST movie Ive ever seen in my life! But I bet WB is relieved to see that the movies still make alot of money even after all the books have been released. :D

I liked it alot, but I was dissappointed that it didnt have:
*ALERT SPOILER**ALERT SPOILER**ALERT SPOILER**
1) The ending battle scene after dumbledores death and 2) The actual funeral.
But besides that, it was a great movie. I cant wait for the next movie(tech. movies) to come out!!!!!

Yes, but did we factor in inflation? I paid $2 more this year. So if they sold 50 ticket, that $100 more. Maybe not only inflation, but maybe thats part of it..
|
Posted by: Grace Ecker
I think that it probably did do better, but ticket prices have shot up in the last 2 years. I paid $2 more for this one, which is $100 after 50 tickets... Im sure its more in some areas, less in others... Probably not the only reason this one made more money, but maybe part of it.

Id have to disagree that this is going to have impressive figures when IMAX comes out. From what I understand, there is only 10 minutes of 3-D and that is at the very beginning. I didnt feel the film was that great and there are plenty of people who felt the same way. My group of about 10 have decided that the film is not good enough to warrant spending 12-15 dollars to see it in IMAX. I cant see the fans that were disappointed in the film spending all that money to see it again. If I choose to see it again it will be in the dollar theater and I will only purchase the DVD to complete the set.

Well I know a few people who are not intense fans that are holding out watching HP6 until the 3D comes out. Especially kids, and their parents.
|

WOW. ive told all my family members that number and they were shocked. But in a good way!! i am so proud of hp and what its accomplished. i hope it makes even more!!
|
Posted by: I_am_hermione
was SO GOOD! i have been out of town (out of town = away from computer) so i have been unable to comment but the whole time i was thinking this is amazing!! even if they did leave out one of my favourite parts ever, "She laughed at my moustache!""So did I, it was the studpidest thing Ive ever seen." but still! SO incredibly fabulous! i am seeing it again, many times, for sure!
|
Posted by: Luan Kryeziu
I liked the movie, but i forgot alot of what happened in it already. I need to see it agai. I wish i loved it the way everyone else does... But i think HP deserves any money it can get. Does this mean Yates is on our good sides?
|
Posted by: I_am_hermione
its no. 159 on the list of the domestic top box office sellers of all time... that doesnt sound all that impressive actually... to be fair its only been 5 days. still. what are yall doing at home? get back to the cinema! add to the millions of dollars! hahaha. did they leave out some of your favourite bits too, FF_Voldemort? me too but i still loved it. it was just really good.
|
Posted by: Erin Harrypotterrules
That is so great!!! I loved the movie! My mom even said that she liked it after seeing it with me and my dad and shes never even read any of the books, let alone seen any of the other movies from start to finish! Harry Potter will live on forever!!!!!:)
|
Posted by: Haley romney
i am seeing it tomorrow! if this is #2, what was #1?
|
Posted by: Timothy wilcox
Shlesha, HBP still is behind Transformer ww . though that should change in a week or three.
|
Posted by: Brooke Gadsby
Wow. thats so much money but it is the best one yet so it deserves it. I LOVED the movie
|
Posted by: Judi Thomas
I guess WBs nasty trick they played on us 9 months ago worked. I think it would have made just as much money last November. BTW...David Yates does a wonderful job with these movies, until the end and then he tanks it. I really wanted to see the funeral and Harry/Ginny break up.
|
Posted by: Brendan smith
It would have been nice if they got 90% of the movie right.
|
Posted by: Brendan smith
please get the next movie right. It might be a good idea to include...ohhh i dont know....charlie, lupin, tonks, fleur, Xenophilius Lovegood, the wedding....however I dont know how you will do it considering you destroyed the borrow!
|
|
|
Posted by: RonLover19
To the comment 2 above this one: I was thinking the same exact thing. Where will the wedding be if the burrow is gone?!
|
Posted by: Cindy Penry
It will be interesting to see where the numbers go from here.
At some point were we told that DH will stick pretty close to the book? If that is the case does anyone else see confusion for those that didnt read the books because of things left out in the past films? i.e. why Fleur is all of a sudden getting married to a Weasley or Snapes memories of Lilly. I see some serious issues coming for continuity in the final film.
Did anyone else notice in HBP that the pictures did not move and even the paintings of the sleeping headmasters looked like still paintings rather than moving paintings with people sleeping?
|
Posted by: Vicky Richards
Haha! So much for that boycott people kept harping on about! "Dont see the film, dont give WB your money." HAHA! Take that! Woooo! Yay for Harry Potter!
|
Posted by: Luan Kryeziu
I have a very large hunch that the wedding will take place at the cottage... Problem solved?
|
Posted by: Brendan smith
I cant believe that people actually go to see the movie more than once. Ill think Ill just stick to the book. Even if the movie wasnt based on a particular book it was still pretty weak for a wizarding movie.
|
Posted by: I_am_hermione
yeah i thought that too. im like, is it just going to be hey btw we rebuilt the burrow! but the shell cottage thing makes sense I guess. although i thought it was weird that they had to go and burn it down... did anyone else notice that james and oliver phelps were like trying not to smile? me too, im a total pyro haha. but i think they could have left that out and replaced it with apparition lessons. its going to be odd in the next movie when they can just apparate all of a sudden. i still freaking loved the movie though and im seeing it again today!
|
Posted by: Jacqui Khan
Just seen it for the second time today and I think I might know how theyre going to sort out the wedding problem. They might make it Lupin and Tonks wedding, seeing theyve already shown that theyre together in hbp.
|
Posted by: Ivan Mozo
tO BE HONEST THIS is THE WORST MOVIE ...ever !!! WHAT ever happened to the battle in the castle ? Dumbledoress explanation of the Horrocrux...the memories of Riddles mother ??? ...really sad ...they had everything to make the best movie according to the book...and they just threw it to the garbage...I am really angry about it.
|
Posted by: Alexander Rodriguez
jaqtkd, I agree with you; I also have a feeling theyre going to make it Tonks and Lupins wedding and have Fleur and Bill already married and living in Shell Cottage. If the wedding were Lupins and Tonks, then the ceremony can take place at Tonks parents house, since that is where they all fly to after they leave the Dursleys house at the beginning of the book. That would make sense, and itll kinda give some sort of cinematic closure to their underdeveloped relationship.

why cant you buy the DH audiobook on iTunes? and what is the name of the song that was playing when lavendar kissed ron in the common room for the first time after the quidditch match? i cant figure it out from the 30 second bits on iTunes. is it in Rons Victory? anybody?
|
Posted by: Luan Kryeziu
I think the shell cottage would work as a place for a wedding, or they might, have a traditional wedding? As long as i get a wedding between Bill anf Fleur and an attack by death eaters. if i get those 2 they could have a wedding in Hawaii for all I care... ( I actually do care) But i think the shell cottage idea might work. I doubt they would rebuild the weasly home. Question. I dont remember exactly what happened, but was the burrow destroyed or set a blaze? i dont think well see the burrow again, if so, it wont be in one piece. I think we should just wait and see... which is more scary then it seems.
|
Posted by: I_am_hermione
Well it was burned but it also sort of broke in the middle and came crashing down... so its probably ruined beyond repair. Im not very clear on that. but its not going to be easy to put back together... anyone know the answer to my questions?
|
Posted by: Cindy Penry
Im not worried about where they hold the wedding. I worry how they are going to explain that all of a sudden Fleur, who was a tri-wizard champion and lived in a different country, is marrying a Weasley thats never been mentioned or seen. Can we say plot hole? OoTP and HBP were in general interesting movies but I just dont see how they will possibly be able to add most of what occurs in DH and it not be confusing. Snapes memory scenes are not going to make sense at all because they didnt bother to show the pensive scene in OoTP or that Petunia knew about the wizard world. How is Harry going to figure out the horcruxes when they never had the conversation about Voldemorts desire for power and that he would never use anything ordinary to make the horcrux. Many things that are important to the final movies were left hanging in the last two films. I just dont see how it will not confuse the non-reading movie goers.

Going to see movie tomorrow, cant wait. Im probably have trouble sleeping casue im so excited
|
Posted by: Chuck Mosser
I just saw this movie and what a huge disappointment. Besides dropping interesting characters they also wrote their own scenes (Harry picking up a waitress in the cafe, the burrow burning down, no funeral, lit wands raised in the air - what is that about - etc., etc., etc.) that were not even in the book. I cant believe J.K.Rowling thinks this was the best movie so far. If I was her, Id be suing them for destroying a great book. And now I hear the director is writing new scenes for the next movie ending. Sadly, Ive lost enthusiasm at this time. I saw the last movie three times. This time, I wanted to ask for my money back.
|
Posted by: Luan Kryeziu
Well, were dealing with Yates, so prepare for major changes and
re-writes.
|
Posted by: Sana m
the movie was AMAZING..my fave yet..id just like to know what happens t the burrow then and then also there were some hints that snape was a good guy in this movie..luved it...everyone did amzing acting..also i am a huge ginormous fan and im sure im right to say dont tonks and lupin get together in the last book>?? aso then why did they seem like they were together in this one?!?! :)
|
Posted by: Chuck Mosser
I was not aware that Yates was known for re-writes? I actually like the OotP but apparently he thinks his vision is better than Rowlings. What a joke... is it too late to stop the next movie, scrap it and start with a new director that will honor the book?
|
Posted by: Michael McAssey
Heres another important missing item from the movie that I havent seen mentioned: the trio didnt have apparition lessons during the HBP movie. Given that apparition is their principal form of transportation throughout DH, and theres no way Yates and company can tell the story without it, they will have to awkwardly explain how they learned to apparate. In HBP (the book) Harry brings Dumbledore back to Hogsmeade by side-along apparition, but that couldnt have happened in the movie because they went directly to Hogwarts, and it was explained that only Dumbledore can apparate into and out of Hogwarts.

WOW! i am honestly not surprised to see that this film brought in a record amount of money. I honestly thought it was the BEST POPTTER film out of all the rest. yeah they left out DUMBLEDOREs funeral and other scenes but overall it was GREAT! I dont understand why people are saying bad things about this film..... I MEAN HONESTLY AT THIS POINT DONT EXPECT A FULL BOOK MOVIE WITH everything from the book...because youre in for a HUGE disappointment. As a TRUE FAN of the books i am happy to say that this was a GOOD movie. Cannot wait for the Hallows. =]
|
Posted by: Luis Molina
I am honestly not surprised that it made huge numbers.... I went to the midnight premiere and it was packed. NOW, to all of those people that said that this movie was BAD and that it sucked...honestly i think you guys are the dumb ones because at this point expecting to see exactly what you read in the book is ridiculous. I think that this movie was the best by far... it followed the book as best as possible and while some scenes were left out i am still not going to say that it was horrible.... lol. i am however curious to know how they will tie in the other movies in the Hallows because the movies didnt really flow like the books did. however, nevertheless i am EXCITED for the final 2 films but i am NOT putting my hopes up to see EVERY single scene in the book. i am just hoping that they have the most important scenes and that they finish the film series with a bang! lol
|
Posted by: Luis Molina
omg the movie was not bad guys....hoenstly you guys need to stop getting your hopes up thats your problem... this movie had great things....yeah they left some scenes out but hey they followed the story. I am however hoping that they include at least the BIG scenes in the Hallows.....
|
Posted by: Timothy wilcox
They way the producers and writers have done this thing from the start. Make you think they havent even read the books , they only have read a dumbed down cliff noted versions or something.
|
Posted by: I_am_hermione
maybe they decided certain things would not have played out on screen well? yes I missed the apparition but maybe it was just too much to have that side plot going on. theres already a lot going on. maybe there will be something about harry saying hed apparated with Dumbledore and he shows the others? hmm... idk. anyway i loved it. best one yet I think. besides, itll be fun to see how its different so well be a little surprised maybe. who knows?

luis09, dont get me wrong I did like the movie but it thought the Burrow scene, though pretty heart punding, was not needed. Im not a book purist, as long as the jist of the story remains, and it feels like a potter, im cool. And i remeber, i read the books. So i know the feeling, though i would like some scences to show up, i wont throw any fits if they dont. Can you belive i forgot alot of what happened in the movie? All i remember is laughing alot and almost crying at the end.

Ive seen the movie twice. We love it because its all we have and we love the books and the characters weve seen grow up. But the movie is a sad disappointment. Yates has changed each movie more and more to where this was just barely recognizable as HBP. Im afraid hell deviate again and utterly ruin the next two films. This movie was entertaining and I had some giggles in it, but it was NOT the Rowlin HBP that we know and love. I wish it all success, but I hope it doesnt give Yates the idea that he can improve upon the next films the way he attempted to do with this one. The best yet? Id argue that point. The least resembling the book? Most definitely? Should it give us fear of the ruination of the next chapters? Definitely.
|
Posted by: Alaa Mohamed
Fear of ruination of the next two chapters??? Seriously?? This movie is the best reviewed out of all of them, JK said it herself its her best yet and she understands the principal of movie adaptation...If she didnt like the movies she would have sued WB since POA....For heavens sakes, lighten up guys! We all know how it will end....We all know every single sub plot and detail...Whats it to you if the movie makers cut this and added that? Dont tell me youre just worried about the non-readers not understanding? Its their fault! Or are you juts pissed off when they ask you questions during the movie?? A pure 100% copy and paste from the book will be boring...Last night, I couldnt stand watching COS because I know exactly what will happen and every line was copy and pasted from the book...With Yates, theres always a surprise round the corner and thats what appeals not the fact that you know which scene is coming up next and reciting it....

I love the movie too, it is one of the Best but it quite away from the book, It did not show that Harry is now the owner of the Blacks house, as such how can Harry stay there when he was on the run after Bills wedding.
I also wish that they show Kreacher n Dobby,, i know it is expensive but they can let go the burning of Burrows scene for that, I do not know whats the point of that scene, maybe they have something on their mind for the DH that link to the fire.
The kissing scene between Harry n Ginny should be more intense n hot, I can feel it while reading the book but not in the film.. its so lame
Dont like the ending too.. it sort of like anticlimax, since I read the book I expect there will be fighting scene between Death Eaters n the student like they did in OOTP but its just Death Eaters messing with things in the dining Hall.
I agreed with someone said that the pictures now are not moving, yes in the book before the funeral DD is sleeping in his frame but other picture were moving.
I like the DD death scene, I did cry.

seeing it again this friday, which is great cause i get to soak it in and i will have known how far from the book it is. So i can just sit back and enjoy I honeslty do not hate any potter movies, I have rankings on which one i like most to least(but still means i like it)
|
Posted by: Brendan smith
It should have been called "Harry Potter and the Days Of Our Lives", not the half blood prince. How can people say thay "like the movie" and then say, "But I dont like this and I dont know why this happened....". Just own it, the movie was ok AT BEST. If this movie had no book and following, it wouldnt have had nearly as much good reviews. It would have been torn apart piece by piece by critics. It needed to be more dark. All the movies get darker and darker and then this one comes along, and its a comedy. I know that they had an overload of information in this book and had to sift though it, but come on. Its not hard to at least give Ginny an actual personality. Anyone who dissagrees either has not read the book, has low standards, or has their head in the sand.

JK has been constantly consulted thoughout all of the films. She has had a say on every scene, every line (she quickly jumped on the line they planned to write which implied Dumbledore was straight and corrected many early ideas that she knew would contridict future plot lines) If she likes HBP then... WHATS THE PROBLEM??!! Its the same as those who say Hermione should be with Harry. Its JKs book, its her world and she loves this film adaptation. If you dont like her ideas or her opinion then write your own book and create your own stories.
Im a huge fan of the books and I love all of the films. HBP is a great ADAPTATION of a 607 page book.
Finally. As DH is going to be split, much of the threads that have been "missed" can be easily added to 7 pt 1 - seriously guys - CHILL!

I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT ITS ALREDY MADE THAT MUCH MONEY AND THAT WAS THE MOVIE THAT DUMBLDORE DIES IN. RIP DUMBLEDORE.
|

it doesnt matter what JK thinks about the movie. It still blew. Im not a sheep that thinks everything that comes out of JK smells like roses. Shes a brilliant writer, but she should have left the fight scene in the end and should have had harry potter parralized. it just works better. As a movie this movie blew ****!
|
Posted by: Alaa Mohamed
I agree with jaqtkd...Seriously you guys chill! Its not your world and its not like changing some details or cutting off stuff means your death is near....
|
Posted by: Nunya Bizness
Wow. Im glad to have someone tell me what opinion I can have or not have. I stated my position...it was an entertaining movie and had some humor...but it wasnt the HBP. As far as J.K. Rowling having the approval of the film, regretably she does not. The film studios buy the film rights from an author and can pretty much do whatever they wish with it. Whether she likes it or not is irrelevant. What she has done in the past is give them clues as to what should be or shouldnt be deleted in order to continue the story before the final book came out. I do hear she is planning on spending a great deal more time on the set of the new films than she did on the last ones. Maybe to preserve the quality of the film? The Los angeles Times said it better than I can. They called it a David Yates adaption based upon the HBP written by J.K. Rowling. So it just isnt me saying this, but others around the world. I am a Potterist and prefer my Potter true to the original. And for those who cant allow others to have an opinion that may differ from theres, I strongly urge THEM to CHILL.

Posted by: Luis Molina
FF_Voldemort....i quite agree with your opinion on the Burrow scene. its just kind of annoying hearing others sayi how angry they are and how the movie was horrible. it really wasnt. it wasnt like globet of fire where i personally thought they butchered the plot. This film had the most important scenes and and while i was disappointed that they didnt have the funeral scene i still enjoyed the film. it had laughter....dark moments....thrills....sus pense....and mystery. and i DO stand on what i said that people need to relax...if it was good enough for JK then it should be fine. if you are expecting to see EVERYTHING from the HALLOWS you are going to be EXTREMELY 100% disappointed. I know i was for goblet of fire and even a little for OOTP but i realized that thats how it is.... you know. as long as they include the hallow scenes and the epic battle and snapes memory which pretty much reveals the truth im GOOD! i truly think they will DO justice to the HALLOWS....because its the end of a GREAT series and they split the series for 2 films so thats saying that they will make it great! i dont think JK will want her series to end horribly on the big screen.
|
Posted by: Brendan smith
It doesnt matter how the last movie will end. It will still have people like you that think as long as it has "Harry Potter" in front of it, its the most fantastic think on the planet. I dont know a different way to explain it. Step back from everthing revolving around the movie. If there were no books and no hype, the movie was seriously lacking appeal. It was extremely anticlimactic. Actually I take that back, there wasnt even a build up to the end. It was like a really long sitcom. I wish I could say I liked the movie. And what important scenes did movie have that they didnt twist to acomidate for the 11 year olds watching it. I think its outragious that they didnt have Dumbledore hanging off the tower at the end and harry potter not paralized. He wouldnt have listened to Snape and stayed down bellow and watch Dumbledore get murdered. I guess Charlies face is not going to be all scarred up in the next movie. Or maybe they wont even have him in it, Im sure all of you wouldnt mind that either.

havent been on mugglenet since the film came out until i saw it as i didnt want to read others views on it until i had seen it. Just watched it tonight, and thought it was ok. I liked it just because it is hp (and everything hp is good ;)), but i thought it seemed very rushed and clunky. I know that everything couldnt be in it .. but seriously.. they didnt even talk about what dumbledore thinks the horcruxes are, is harry just meant to guess in the last film what they are?!? and i love humour, but it seemed a bit over the top, i would have preferd more of the darker stuff, or just more explanation. I can say that i wouldnt have a clue what was going on in the film with the horcruxes if i hadnt read the book lots. Just my opinion :)

luis09 i agree with you 110%! I think that Directors need creative freedom, and i say "if you want the true plot pick up the book!". I am seeing it friday with a friend who also saw it already, were Potter heads, were seeing it together!

Conratulations! It definitely deserves it. @luis 09 and Luan Kryeziu I agree COMPLETELY! A movie is supposed to be different than the book.
