Harry Potter director David Yates directed a new parody film titled "2024: Future News," starring a variety of European actors, including Harry Potter’s Rufus Scrimgeour (Bill Nighy) and Fleur Delacour (Clemence Poesy). The short film tells the story of what the future could be like if governments implement the Robin Hood Tax. The Robin Hood Tax is a tiny tax on the financial sector that could generate billions of pounds annually to fight poverty and climate change at home and abroad. Small change for the banks - big change for those hit hardest by the financial crisis.
In the film, Bill plays John Bostock, an English banker who refused to implement the tax back in 2014 and therefore left the UK to suffer with existing unemployment, further cuts to public service. and the inability to fight poverty and climate change at home and abroad.
Actress Clemence Poesy plays French economist, Francoise Dupois, who joins the news interview to talk about the benefits that the Robin Hood Tax has brought to France in 2024.
Here is what the actress and director had to say about the campaign:
Clemence Poesy: “If France and the other nine countries seriously considering going ahead with the tax decide to do so, up to 37 billion Euros could be raised each year. Spending this money on the fight against poverty, including the worldwide AIDS pandemic, and climate change is the right thing to do.”
Director David Yates: "I agreed to direct the film because the Robin Hood Tax is a simple yet brilliant idea. We need to learn the lessons of the financial crisis and ensure that banks and hedge funds work in the interests of society, not the other way around."
