Quibble of the Week: “O Children: An Ode to Harry and Hermione”

Our next featured Quibble of the Week comes from Selina, and in her piece, submitted back in August, she argued Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 downplayed the canonical relationships of the book, (namely between Ron and Hermione, Ginny and Harry) to give center stage to an exaggerated relationship between Harry and Hermione.

Selina observes that the movies have been building this imagined relationship for years. In her quibble she writes: “We are already familiar with the Harry/Hermione hug in CoS, the falling on each other in PoA, the bridge scene in GoF and the crying on the stairs in HBP… but man do they milk the Harry/Hermione connection in the latest film: the dance scene, the graveyard scene, the kiss? Forget about the Harry/Ron hug, that’s not important, let’s instead spend five minutes letting Harry and Hermione make out.”
