“Potter” Actors Attend 58th London Evening Standard Theatre Awards

by Claire Furner · Published November 26, 2012 · Updated October 16, 2017

Sunday evening saw Hollywood A-listers rub shoulders with British stage legends at the 2012 London Evening Standard Theatre Awards, held at the Savoy Hotel in London. Among the stars present at last night’s ceremony which celebrates the very best of British theatre, were a number of the Harry Potter cast, many of which took to the stage to present and receive awards.

Imelda Staunton, known for playing Professor Umbridge, accepted the Ned Sherrin Award for Best Musical for “Sweeney Todd” in which she starred as Mrs. Lovett, whilst Bill Nighy (Scrimgeour) and Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort) presented the Editor’s Award and the Best Play Award, respectively. Also in attendance was Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy), accompanied by her husband Damien Lewis, and Frances de la Tour (Madame Maxime). The night was hosted by British comic actor, James Corden.

Quotes

  • “Well – it’s just that you seem to be laboring under the delusion that I am going to – what is the phrase? – come quietly. I am afraid I am not going to come quietly at all, Cornelius. I have absolutely no intention of being sent to Azkaban. I could break out, of course – but what a waste of time, and frankly, I can think of a whole host of things I would rather be doing.”

#PotterHistory

  • August 8, 2007 – Amazon releases its final number for the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Over 2.2 million books were pre-ordered as of July 20; 1.75 books per second were sold on the final day before release.

Did You Know

  • When Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was released in the United Kingdom, the publisher asked stores not to sell the book until schools were closed for the day to prevent truancy.
