Warwick Davis’s new interview discusses favorite role, “Star Wars”, “Potter”, and more

by Keith Hawk · Published September 27, 2013 · Updated January 19, 2017

Warwick Davis – the brilliant actor who portrayed Professor Flitwick and Griphook in the Harry Potter film series – has been in some of the best films in history, even though some of his roles were “small” parts (pun intended). Warwick suffers from a form of dwarfism called Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia.

It all started when Warwick was cast to play the Ewok scout named Wicket in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi when he was only seven years old. He also portrayed some iconic parts such as the Leprachaun and Willow, which is the name of his own acting agency (Willow Management) that represents short actors.

In a new interview, Warwick shares his thoughts on a varity of subjects, including Harry Potter vs. Star Wars, Doctor Who, and his disappointment in the film Snow White and the Huntsmen. You can read the entire interview right here, but we share with you a few of his statements below:

My life changed when I got a part in Return of the Jedi [as the Ewok scout, Wicket] I’d already seen Star Wars when I was seven, so it was a powerful experience being 11 years old and seeing the actual film set and meeting my heroes. I was intrigued to see how films were put together and edited, and it was the first time I had come face to face with other little people. It made me realise I wasn’t alone.

Appearing in Dr. Who was my greatest role. I played this character Porridge [alongside Matt Smith, in the penultimate episode of series seven, “Nightmare in Silver”], and I felt there was so much going on with that role, in terms of who he really was. He’s a guy [who]’s emperor of the universe. And like me, he’d had a lot of success, but [he] was trying to be a real person even though the pressure of his job was huge. That resonated with me, and it touched a lot of people. That will definitely go on my showreel.

Warwick Davis is one of our favorite Harry Potter actors. Who is yours? Let us know in the comments below.
