“Foosball,” starring Rupert Grint, picked up for US release and renamed

The Weinstein Company has acquired rights to Rupert Grint’s Argentine animated film Foosball, which has been renamed Underdogs for release in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and France. We previously reported that the film is set for release in the UK under the name The Unbeatables. It is now planned to open on August 27, 2014, in the US and August 15, 2014, in the UK.

Rupert stars as the reluctant hero whose foosball table players magically come to life and help him in an underdog match to save the town from his long-time rival.

Harvey Weinstein said of Underdogs,

This film’s magical story, heart and humor, along with its top notch animation, truly resonated with us and is sure to captivate parents just as much as it will their children. We’re incredibly excited to share it with audiences here in the US and around the world.”

The film was released in Argentina last summer and at $21 million, was the most expensive Argentine film ever made.

Are you excited to see Rupert Grint’s new animated adventure?
