MuggleNet Throwback: J.K. Rowling joins Twitter!
Five years ago this week, Twitter was just becoming a household name. Nearly everyone had joined the social networking site that is now worth millions of dollars. Everyone, that is, except for J.K. Rowling. But then, on September 25, 2009, Rowling jumped into the Twitterverse, causing fans to flock to her official page and hit “follow” faster than it took us to crack open Deathly Hallows when it was released.
Okay, maybe not quite that fast.
Despite the instant popularity of Rowling’s Twitter account, her first two official tweets weren’t exactly encouraging:
However, I should flag up now that although I could twitter endlessly, I’m afraid you won’t be hearing from me very often……….

………….as pen and paper is my priority at the moment — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 17, 2009
MuggleCast co-host Micah Tannenbaum repeatedly expressed his disappointment with Rowling’s lack of tweets on various episodes of the podcast, but thankfully, his wish for a more vocal Rowling has been answered! Rowling has taken to Twitter with earnest over the past few months, even responding to fans and revealing tidbits about the Potter world and herself. She most recently revealed what her own Patronus is and teased that we might soon discover our own on Pottermore! But perhaps our favorite tweet of Rowling’s so far goes to show just how lovely and focused as ever on Harry Potter fans she is:
Potterheads are all wonderful, but YOU are the best. Yes, you, reading this. X

Isn’t she great?
Do you remember when Rowling first joined Twitter? Are you excited that she’s been more active on the site lately? What questions of yours do you hope to see her answer soon on Twitter?
