UPDATED: Tom Felton to Receive Giffoni Experience Award at Film Festival

Congratulations to Tom Felton, who will be honored with the Giffoni Experience Award at the upcoming 45th Giffoni Film Festival! The event is the largest international kids’ film festival in the world. It will take place this year July 17-26 in Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy.

Tom will appear on July 21 to meet with the festival’s International Jury of Youth, a jury of teens with a passion for film, and receive the honor.

Tom began acting at the age of eight, earning roles in The Borrowers (1997) and Anna and the King (1999). After rising to stardom in the Harry Potter series, he has gone on to claim roles in several more films, including Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), From the Rough (2013), Belle (2013), and Against the Sun (2014). He will next be seen in the Biblical epic Risen (2016).

Additionally, Darren Criss, star of the wildly popular A Very Potter Musical series, and currently starring on Broadway in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, will also be attending the festival, due to popular demand. He will appear on July 24.

This isn’t the first time a Potter star has received an award at the Giffoni Film Festival. Last year, Alan Rickman received the lifetime achievement award for his impressive body of work.

Congratulations to Tom who picked up his award this week. Attending the ceremony, he said:

It all seems strange and beautiful at the same time. I do not consider myself famous. This is an honour beyond description.

I have been a fan of Harry since 2000, a fan of MuggleNet since 2005, and a MuggleNet team member since 2013. I believe in the power of stories to bring people together, and nothing does that quite like Harry Potter. I live in Toronto, Canada.
