Remembering Dinner in the Great Hall

by Claire Furner · Published December 6, 2015 · Updated October 16, 2017

Some of the most charming moments from the Harry Potter series, books or films, are set around Christmas time and, more specifically, Christmas at Hogwarts. Since it opened, the WarnerBros. Studio Tour has sought to capture the spirit of these Potter Christmases and none more so than with Dinner in the Great Hall.

MuggleNet was fortunate enough to have attended the event (check out MuggleNetLive for our coverage from the evening) and as we are mere hours away from the big day, we thought we’d take a moment to relive our highlights from this very special evening.

Bubbles in the Foyer

After checking in at the Gringotts’ desks, guests were greeted with champagne and canapés, immediately setting the festive atmosphere. It also gave everyone their first opportunity to mingle with their fellow guests, which brings us too…

Attire befitting the Yule Ball

Ranging from House pride-themed black tie to Hogwarts robes and full blown cosplay, attendees pulled out all stops for the big night.

Christmas Crackers

A common fixture to most British Christmas dinners, it came as a total surprise to this writer that Christmas crackers are not so frequently used by our North American counterparts. And so ensued varying success of pulling said crackers, reading of jokes and donning of paper hats, with our bemused American contingent.

Giant Wreaths

Putting every attendees’ front door wreathes to shame, the ones adorning the doors to the Great Hall were pretty epic!

Suprise dinner guests

After the first course had been served and devoured, the bright lights of the Great Hall dimmed to a more atmospheric purple, the doors opened and mist poured in. And out of the mist entered…Death Eaters. Cue the endless selfies!

Pudding on Platform 9 and 3/4

Why? Because pudding! And because it’s rather easy, whilst consuming second portions of Christmas pudding and watching the steam rise from the scarlet train, to imagine yourself being whisked away on the Hogwarts Express and enjoying Christmas at the “real” Hogwarts…

Dinner in the Great Hall

And last but certainly not least, the ultimate highlight of the event was, of course, dinner in the great hall! The place looked magically, the atmosphere was buzzing and the food was served with perfection.

It was a dream come true for any Potterhead to enjoy such an event and unfortunately, it was all over far too soon. Fingers crossed there is another in the works – for Halloween, perhaps?

From all of us here at MuggleNet, we hope you have a Very Harry Christmas, however you choose to celebrate the holidays.

Hogwarts in the Snow runs at the WarnerBros Studio Tour until January 31st.
