Top Seven Magical Creatures

The wizarding world is full of wonderful creatures, some terrifying and some terrific. Below I’ve listed my seven favorite creatures from both the Harry Potter series and the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film.

1. Niffler

The Niffler trying to outsmart Newt is one of my favorite moments in the film, so I have to include him on my list. Besides being comical, he was mischievous and adorable. Even though he wasn’t a huge character, he proved to be a scene-stealer.

2. Swooping Evil

Before Fantastic Beasts was released, I put this creature down as terrifying, but now that I’ve seen it in action, I have to change my stance. Although the name suggests that the creature is evil, its actions proved otherwise. It was quite the hero in the film and bailed Newt out of trouble a few times.

3. Hippogriff

Hippogriffs with the front half as an eagle and the back half as a horse are graceful and strong. Buckbeak in particular was an incredible judge of character and helped save Sirius from the Dementors.

4. Erumpent

I love Newt’s mating dance, so I can’t help but like the Erumpent too. Despite being a huge and ferocious creature, she was very cute. With her detailed facial expressions, I couldn’t help but like her. Her comedic interactions with Jacob only added to her appeal.

5. Phoenix

I think if I could have any creature in the magical world, it would have to be a phoenix. They are majestic birds that have the power to live forever, heal wounds with their tears, and carry several times their strength. Plus, the loyalty they have for their masters is incredible. Fawkes did everything he could to help Dumbledore and Harry.

6. Thunderbird

Thunderbirds, just like Hippogriffs, are strong. They are extremely powerful and have the ability to create storms just by flapping their wings. Despite not having a massive role in the film, Frank the Thunderbird played a huge role in the final act and helped MACUSA by wiping the No-Majs’ memories.

7. Bowtruckle

In contrast to the trouble the Niffler caused for Newt, Pickett was only ever useful. This tiny and seemingly vulnerable character enraptured me. I can see why the Bowtruckle is Eddie Redmayne’s favorite creature in the entire film.
