Social Media Roundup: Advocacy and Nostalgia!

by Lucy O'Shea · July 29, 2018

There has been A LOT of Fantastic Beasts news these past two weeks, but what have some of our other magical stars been up to? It’s time for another Social Media Roundup!

Emma Watson hosted a “From Violence to a Place of Power” panel at a summit that explored how philanthropy could help end violence towards women and girls.

?????? I am honoured to have hosted a panel of extraordinary activists at the ‘From Violence to a Place of Power’ event, which explored how philanthropy can increase its support for the movement to end violence against girls and women. ???? ••• Thank you to the panel: Nasra (@_IntegrateUK), Marai (Imkaan) and Devi (@FridaFund), and all the other incredible speakers who inspired us with their honesty and passion. Supporting women’s and girls organisations is the single greatest hope we have for worldwide transformative change – and my philanthropic choices are grounded in that belief. ••• Thank you to NoVo Foundation, Oak Foundation, Unbound Philanthropy and Ariadne for organising this event. #timesup #metoo #endVAWG

Emma also met with Yusra Mardini, a swimmer from Syria who represented the first-ever Refugee Olympic Team at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

??‍♀️?? I recently met Olympic swimmer, Yusra Mardini, from Syria who represented the first-ever Refugee Olympic Team in the Rio 2016 Olympics. ?✊?? ••• Yusra has an incredible story: she fled the war in Syria with her sister, and was part of a group trying to reach Greece by boat. When the motor failed, Yusra, her sister and two others swam in open water for more than three hours to stop their dinghy from capsizing, saving the lives of 20 people. She is now the youngest ever UNHCR @refugees Goodwill Ambassador, and you can all read her incredible story in her autobiography, ? Butterfly ?. ••• It was so inspiring to meet you @mardiniysra and I wish you all the best training for 2020! #withrefugees #sheplayswewin #ThisGirlCan

Tom Felton and Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks) were at San Diego Comic-Con to promote their new YouTube series, Origin, which is set to premiere later this year.

Thank you everyone that came to our @OriginSeries panel @Comic_Con! pic.twitter.com/daXGXIXHsx

Loved seeing these two. Fun Harry Potter reunion at Comic-Con with @TomFelton & @NatTenaLady for their new show, ORIGIN. Also, someone hook Tom up with some tickets to Cursed Child! @jk_rowling? https://t.co/4cVk7XYroP pic.twitter.com/YixCHYWfAx

To celebrate the Fizzing Whizbees’ first season of the Broadway Softball League, Jamie Parker (Harry Potter, Cursed Child) tweeted a short video. Good luck in the playoffs, Fizzing Whizbees!

Some Potter alumni have been getting a bit nostalgic over the past two weeks by visiting magical locations or celebrating wizarding friendships!

Rohan Gotobed (young Sirius Black) decided to drop by a familiar spot on his way home from the theater.

Great stuff #Heathers, thought I’d pop by this old watering hole on the way home ? pic.twitter.com/D3BBcLEzoO

On the Leeds stop of The Case of the Frightened Lady tour, Oliver Phelps (George Weasley) made a nostalgia-filled visit to the hotel in which he had his first audition for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone!

Whist here in Leeds I decided to go to literally the place where it all began. I found the exact spot where @jamesphelps_pictures & I lined up for our number to audition for Harry Potter. The ballroom that was used for a waiting room (for a couple of hours!) And even the exact room where we had that first audition and changed my life forever. Amazing experience. #memorylane #HPaudition #Leeds #18yearslater #DontAlwaysListenToTeachersListenToYourSoul

And just like us, Tolga Safer took a moment to celebrate the friendships he has formed thanks to Harry Potter. However, unlike us, he was celebrating his friendship with Viktor Krum himself, Stanislav Yanevski!

Thanks to @HarryPotterFilm.. 13yrs later, still best of friends! ??‍♂️??‍♂️ @StanYanevski #durmstrang #wizards #krum #harrypotter #gobletoffire pic.twitter.com/lo8vIqHdq1

Finally, Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski) shared this adorable snap of Funko Pop! Newt and Jacob.

Jacob vigilantly keeps watch as Newt negotiates safe passage with the Queen of the Mega-Monkeys.
