“Beedle the Bard” Illustrator to Appear at the Globe

by Jessica Barber · Published September 6, 2018 · Updated April 3, 2019

Bloomsbury’s new illustrated edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard will be released on October 2, and fans in London, England, will have an opportunity to celebrate the release with the illustrator himself!

Chris Riddell will appear at a special event at Shakespeare’s Globe on the day of the release. The evening will include a talk in which Riddell will describe the experience of illustrating Rowling’s book of wizard fairy tales and the inspiration for his watercolor illustrations. In addition to the illustrator’s talk, a dramatic reading of one of the tales will be performed in conjunction with a live illustration session by Riddell in the Globe’s beautiful indoor theater.

Illustrating the Tales of Beedle the Bard will take place at 7:00 pm in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe. The current version of the Globe was built as a reproduction of the original Globe Theatre, which was the home of William Shakespeare’s theater company for 14 years. Rebuilding efforts were begun by Madam Hooch actress Zoë Wanamaker’s father, American actor and director Sam Wanamaker, for whom the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, an authentic reproduction of a Jacobean indoor theater, is named.

Riddell will appear at only five events of this type across the United Kingdom, so if you are in London, don’t miss this opportunity to attend this fantastic discussion and reading! Tickets can be purchased at Shakespeare’s Globe’s website, with options for both seated and standing places, which are £12 and £8, respectively. Don’t miss this great opportunity to attend an evening of literature and art, combined with the literary history represented by the beautiful candlelit venue.
