Tom Felton Goes Dutch in New Film
Tom Felton’s versatility as an actor is something to marvel at. He’s played Julian Albert in The Flash, Logan in the sci-fi thriller Origin, and of course, our own Draco Malfoy. Still, the roles he’s played have all been in English — until now. Felton has taken a role in the Dutch film De Slag om de Schelde, which will be known in English as The Forgotten Battle.
The film follows three young people fighting for their freedom during World War II. It focuses on the Battle of the Scheldt, which took place in southwestern Netherlands and northern Belgium in October and early November 1944. The city of Antwerp was liberated during this battle, but the area of the Scheldt estuary was not yet. Felton will play opposite Gijs Blom (The Death and Life of John F. Donovan) as Marius, a Dutch boy fighting for the Germans; Jamie Flatters (Avatar 2–4) as William, an English glider pilot; and Dutch actress Susan Radder as Teuntje, a Dutch resistance girl, who all encounter each other during the battle. Theo Barklem-Biggs (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Pit Bukowski (Kursk), and Belgian actor Mathijs Scheepers also appear in the cast.
Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. will direct this war drama, which is being produced to benefit the Dutch National Foundation for Peace, Freedom and Veteran Care in honor of the 75th anniversary of the battle. The Forgotten Battle hits Dutch movie theater screens on November 26, 2020, and on Netflix in the rest of the world.
