Top Five Cutest Creatures

Both the Harry Potter series and the Fantastic Beasts films feature many extraordinary creatures. Some of them are terrifying, but others are incredibly adorable. Below are my top five cutest creatures.

Niffler

The Niffler is a British beast. Fluffy, black, and long-snouted, this burrowing creature has a predilection for anything glittery.” (FBaWtFT 30)

The Niffler in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was incredibly mischievous and adorable. While he would definitely be a troublesome pet, there’s no denying that his little body and waddling feet make him wonderfully cuddly.

Pygmy Puff

[Ginny] was pointing at a number of round balls of fluff in shades of pink and purple, all rolling around the bottom of a cage and emitting high-pitched squeaks.
‘Pygmy Puffs,’ said George. ‘Miniature puffskeins, we can’t breed them fast enough.’” (HBP 121)

The Puffskein is found worldwide. Spherical in shape and covered in soft, custard-coloured fur, it is a docile creature that has no objection to being cuddled or thrown about. Easy to care for, it emits a low humming noise when contented.” (FBaWtFT 34)

Although we only glimpsed the Pygmy Puff in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the vivid description in the book immediately draws me to them. Who wouldn’t consider a small squeaking creature covered in fur lovable?

Kneazles

A small catlike creature with flecked, speckled, or spotted fur, outsize ears and a tail like a lion’s, the Kneazle is intelligent, independent and occasionally aggressive, though if it takes a liking to a witch or wizard, it makes an excellent pet. The Kneazle has an uncanny ability to detect unsavoury or suspicious characters and can be relied upon to guide its owner safely home if they are lost.” (FBaWtFT 24).

Kneazles are very similar to cats but can do more. Given how cute regular cats and kittens are, a Kneazle that can help you get home and detect suspicious creatures would be incredibly handy to have.

Bowtruckle

The Bowtruckle is a tree-guardian creature found mainly in the west of England, southern Germany and certain Scandinavian forests. It is immensely difficult to spot, being small (maximum eight inches in height) and apparently made of bark and twigs with two small brown eyes. The Bowtruckle, which eats insects, is a peaceable and intensely shy creature.” (FBaWtFT 5)

In contrast to the trouble the Niffler caused for Newt, Pickett the Bowtruckle was only ever useful. This tiny and seemingly vulnerable character enraptured me, and his cheeky appearance makes him more endearing.

Snidget

“The Golden Snidget is an extremely rare, protected species of bird. Completely round, with a very long, thin beak and glistening, jewel-like red eyes, the Golden Snidget is an extremely fast flier that can change direction with uncanny speed and skill, owing to the rotational joints of its wings.” (FBaWtFT 39)

Unfortunately, the Snidget has not been featured in any of the films yet. However, based on the description, it sounds incredibly lovable and adorable. I hope we’ll be able to see this creature in one of the upcoming Fantastic Beasts films.
