Duel the Malfoys and Try Not to Swoon over the Baby Magical Creatures This Month in “Wizards Unite”

by Adam Poncharoensub · April 30, 2021

The start of a new month brings with it a set of new challenges and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite events. Developer Niantic has released the May events calendar.

While April had players searching for members of and objects from the most wonderful wizarding family, May begins with players facing one of the more difficult families in the wizarding world. Though it’s argued that they were redeemed in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the Malfoys were known to fans as the bad guys for so long. For the May Adversaries Event 1, starting today and ending on May 3 at 11 a.m. PDT, players will be facing Draco Malfoy and his mother, Narcissa, alongside increased Death Eater Oddities. You can check out the full details of the first May Adversaries Event below:

  • Increased Adversary sightings of members of the Malfoy family
  • Increased Death Eater Oddities
  • Increased spawns of Wit-Sharpening Potion ingredients
  • Guaranteed Sword of Gryffindor in Dark Chamber I and above
  • Master Notes will reduce all variants of Exstimulo and Wit-Sharpening Potions brew time by 25%.
  • Increased Wizarding XP, Challenge Family XP, and Energy Rewards from completing Wizarding Challenges

It’s wonderful that Niantic is paying tribute to the late Helen McCrory, the actor who brought Narcissa to life, beginning in the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film adaptation. McCrory tragically passed away earlier this month due to cancer.

For the “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” May 2021 Brilliant Event, players will be on the hunt for Brilliant Foundables that belong to Brilliant Hagrid’s Hut, including the Brilliant Baby Three-Headed Dog and Brilliant Baby Mooncalf.

As the first May Adversaries Event closes, the first Brilliant Event begins. Starting on May 3 at 11 a.m. PDT, fans can take part in Creature Discomforts Brilliant Event Part 1, in which players will be searching for the Brilliant Foundables that belong to Brilliant Hagrid’s Hut. According to Niantic, it means baby magical creatures, including Brilliant Baby Three-Headed Dog and Brilliant Baby Mooncalf encounters. Players will also be searching for other Brilliant Foundables such as Hagrid’s Wooden Flute from defeating Wizarding Challenges, Baby Acromantula from completing Tasks, and Bottle of Acromantula Venom by passing through a Brilliant Portkey. You can also expect increased spawns of the Three-Headed Dog Oddity and Mooncalf Foundable. Creature Discomforts Brilliant Events Part 1 ends on May 10 at 11 a.m. PDT.

The Second Adversaries Event of May 2021 features a rematch with Fenrir Greyback and Gilderoy Lockhart.

If you didn’t get enough satisfaction from hexing the five-time recipient of Witch Weekly‘s Most Charming Smile Award back in February, you’re getting another chance. For May Adversaries Event 2, starting on May 10 at 11 a.m. PDT, Fenrir Greyback and Gilderoy Lockhart will return as Adversaries for witches and wizards to duel until May 13 at 11 a.m. PDT.

To coincide with the return of American football TV broadcasts, the May 2021 Community Day involves Quidditch.

The May 2021 Community Day involves Quidditch.

As the Muggles of the United States congregate for Sunday night football, witches and wizards in Wizards Unite will be gathering at the Quidditch stands to spectate the wizarding world’s most popular sport. Coinciding with the return of professional American football broadcasts, Niantic has scheduled the May 2021 Community Day for Sunday, May 16. From 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. local time, you’ll be searching for Foundables Quidditch Fan Neville Longbottom and Quidditch Fan Hermione Granger.

The last event of May 2021 is the Creature Discomforts Brilliant Event Part 2, in which players will be searching for Brilliant Foundables that reside on the Brilliant Mountainside, including the Brilliant Baby Chinese Fireball and the Brilliant Baby Troll.

And lastly, Creature Discomforts Brilliant Event 2 concludes the month on May 17 at 11 a.m. PDT. For this Brilliant Event, players will be searching for Brilliant Foundables belonging to the Brilliant Mountainside, including Brilliant Baby Chinese Fireball and Brilliant Baby Troll, which are likely to be Encounters. The art also suggests that there will be Brilliant Baby Thestral and Brilliant Baby Erumpent that will likely be obtained through Wizarding Challenges, Tasks, or Portkeys. Creature Discomforts Brilliant Event Part 2 ends on May 24 at 11 a.m. PDT.

It’s touching that the devs quickly put together this Adversaries Event weekend in honor of Helen McCrory. It’ll give players a moment to remember her as they play Wizards Unite throughout the weekend. How do you feel about the game’s tribute to the late actor? In what other ways do you think Niantic can continue to remember McCrory? Let us know in the comments.
