LEGO “Harry Potter”: Golden Anniversary Minifigures and Retiring Sets

This year, LEGO Harry Potter is celebrating its 20-year anniversary, and while we’re still waiting to discover whether the rumor about the massive LEGO Harry Potter wizard chess set is true, we do have confirmation that other LEGO Harry Potter sets are being released this year, and with these come some exclusive minifigures.

What makes these minifigures exclusive is that because they are being released for the anniversary, they will be made up of golden bricks, with additional printing to re-create their iconic outfits, and sparkles to give off the illusion that they are shining.

The characters who have been turned gold are Harry Potter, Voldemort, Severus Snape, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and Quirinus Quirrell. Since they are golden, they are likely to be very popular with any LEGO Harry Potter collector.

While we don’t yet know whether these will be the only characters featured in the anniversary sets, it looks as though there will be at least one per set. We’re also unsure of what the upcoming sets will be, but perhaps the backgrounds of the pictures are hints; the scene behind Harry looks very much like the floor that surrounds the sinks in the girls’ bathroom in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

In other LEGO Harry Potter news is the announcement that several sets will be retiring from production later this year.

According to Brick Fanatics, the first set to leave our shelves will be 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall in July 2021. Then in December, we will be saying goodbye to 40419 Hogwarts Students Accessory Set, 75947 Hagrid’s Hut: Buckbeak’s Rescue, 75953 Hogwarts Whomping Willow, 75966 Hogwarts Room of Requirement, 75967 Forbidden Forest: Umbridge’s Encounter, 76384 Hogwarts Moment: Herbology Class, and 76385 Hogwarts Moment: Charms Class.

So keep your eyes peeled for the exclusive golden minifigures, and be sure to Accio yourself one of the retiring LEGO Harry Potter sets before it’s too late!
