New Photo from “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary” Shows the Reunion Wasn’t All in Person

A photo from the upcoming Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts shows Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson reuniting in the Gryffindor common room. The image, featuring the trio smiling and laughing together, was leaked on Wednesday evening before being swiftly reposted by HBO Max.

Unquestionably, the photo is adorable, and fans reacted with lots of emotion and excitement at seeing the trio together again. However, if you look closely, you can see that Rupert has been edited in. It’s barely noticeable – Dan and Emma seem to be looking right at Rupert, but the shadow of his foot on the floor is pointing in the opposite direction of the other shadows, and the light on his face is slightly different than that of the others.

The reunion was filmed over three days in mid- to late November, and as we reported last month, Rupert was seen in Toronto, Canada, during that same time, filming the upcoming Netflix series Cabinet of Curiosities.

MuggleNet has now confirmed with three different sources that Rupert was not in physical attendance at the reunion due to filming conflicts, while Dan and Emma were in the same physical space.

Nevertheless, we are of course still very excited to see how the reunion goes! The cast members we’re expecting to see include not just Dan, Rupert, and Emma but also Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Robbie Coltrane (Rubeus Hagrid), Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort), Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy), Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), James Phelps (Fred Weasley), Oliver Phelps (George Weasley), Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley), and Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley).

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will be available to stream on January 1, 2022, on HBO Max in the United States and Sky and NOW in the United Kingdom. You can rewatch the teaser trailer below.
