Rupert Grint Confirmed in Netflix Horror Series “Cabinet of Curiosities”

As quoted by Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, “the rumors are true,” because after reportedly filming for a new Netflix series in Toronto, it has been confirmed that Rupert Grint has indeed joined a new Netflix horror anthology series called Cabinet of Curiosities, from The Shape of Water director Guillermo del Toro.

The series will consist of eight eerie tales that will accordingly be a collection of live-action stories that “challenge our traditional notions of horror, from macabre to magical, gothic to grotesque or classically creepy.” Panos Cosmatos, Jennifer Kent, and Vincenzo Natali will write and direct single episodes of the series, and del Toro will be the executive producer and co-showrunner.

Back in September, Variety reported that Cabinet of Curiosities would contain a star-studded cast, but at that point, there was no mention of Grint’s role within the series. Grint will indeed be joined by a lot of famous faces, including Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia), Essie Davis (The Babadook), Crispin Glover (Back to the Future), Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead), Tim Blake Nelson (Holes), and Peter Weller (RoboCop).

This isn’t the first time Grint will take part in a darker tale; in 2019, he was cast in the darkly comical psychological horror series Servant, produced by M. Night Shyamalan. It was reportedly his performance in this that caught del Toro’s eye, who tweeted about Grint’s performance in the show.

I enjoyed SERVANT completely. Late to the party, but this is a beautifully crafted, elegant show. Rupert Grint almost steals it for me, as does the surgical staging and camera work.

Very, very grounded performances crown top technical and narrative efforts. Perfect for a rainy afternoon if you are predisposed to ghost stories that deal with grief, guilt, melancholy and the unrewarding, remote nature of modern life.

We don’t yet have any information on Grint’s role within the series, but we’re looking forward to finding out more.
