Autumn Brings Opportunities for “Potter”-Themed Fun in the UAE

Harry Potter fans in the United Arab Emirates have a bit more to celebrate this autumn. Two magical experiences will be calling Dubai home this September and October.

Kicking off the fall season, Abu Dhabi Mall welcomed the Harry Potter: Celebrate Hogwarts experience earlier this month. Previously hosted by Mall of the Emirates, the Potter-themed pop-up seeks to bring the wizarding world to life with re-creations of some of the film series’s most beloved settings. From September 9 until October 4, shoppers are welcome to traipse up the grand staircase, brave the Whomping Willow, and hang out at Hagrid’s hut. A props exhibition area is available for further photo opportunities, as well as a Quidditch field for mastering (and showing off) your Seeker skills.

Guests are welcome to walk the Forbidden Forest, take part in trivia challenges on the weekends, and check out some Potter-themed 3D art. A life-size replica of the Hogwarts Express will be available for taking what is sure to be your favorite back-to-school photo. A dress-up day competition will also be taking place on October 1 and is an opportunity to win prizes.

Certain areas will be accessible only to those with Activity Passports, which can be obtained by exchanging Abu Dhabi Mall receipts from that day. Every Dh100 spent will earn shoppers two passports, while every Dh200 will earn up to five.

Also coming to Dubai is Potted Potter, a comedy performance by Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner that “takes on the ultimate challenge of condensing all seven Harry Potter books (and a real[-]life game of Quidditch) into seventy hilarious minutes.” First developed in a London bookshop, the show has since been on tour around the world, garnering equally widespread rave reviews.

Potted Potter will be in Dubai on October 21, with a performance at 7 p.m., as well as on October 22 and 23, with two shows each day. The performances will take place at Theatre by QE2, a theater onboard a decommissioned ocean liner, the Queen Elizabeth 2, which is permanently docked at Dubai’s Port Rashid. Tickets can be purchased online with prices starting at Dh140.
