Castium Revelio: The Wizards and Witches at Disney’s D23 Expo

Welcome to this week’s edition of MuggleNet’s Casting News. We’re sticking with last week’s theme of galaxies far, far away, with teasers from Star Wars spin-offs at this year’s D23 Expo. The Expo also gave us trailers from live-action remakes and the Marvel Extended Universe. Let’s hop straight into it. Castium Revelio!

Harry Potter Cast and Crew

Before we get into Disney trailers, however, we've got Wizarding World wins at the Emmys. We all know about Jamie Campbell Bower's (young Gellert Grindelwald) role in Stranger Things Season 4 as Vecna, and this year the show has won five awards. The awards include Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup; Outstanding Music Supervision; and Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series, Limited or Anthology Series, or Movie. Congratulations to Bower and the rest of the show's cast and crew!

There's exciting news on Timothy Spall (Peter Pettigrew) up next. He's acting as an executive producer for Late in Summer, a period drama set around the end of the Second World War. The film has been picked up by Lionsgate UK for distribution, with the presale going through this week.

It's Disney time! The first trailer we've got for you stars Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick). He's set to return to his role in Willow for a Disney+ original series set 20 years after the original film. The show will start streaming in November, but until then, you can check out the trailer for the fantasy-adventure series below.

We've also got the final trailer for the Rogue One spin-off series AndorFiona Shaw (Petunia Dursley) is set to play Maarva Andor, the adoptive mother of the show's lead protagonist, Cassian. Set five years before the events of Rouge One, the show will focus on the lives of working people under the Empire, giving us a new way to look at the Star Wars universe. The first three episodes begin streaming on September 21.

Fantastic Beasts Cast and Crew

Up next is a poster reveal from D23 Expo. We've been sharing pictures of Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore) in costume as Captain Hook for the upcoming remake of Peter Pan, which is called Peter Pan and Wendy. The poster shows the famous flying ship Jolly Roger floating through the sky. Check it out below, and see if you can spot anything through the clouds.

This poster wasn't Law's only appearance at the Expo, however. He's making his debut in the Star Wars universe, and we have a first-look image of him in costume for Skeleton Crew, a 1980s-themed coming-of-age space adventure. He's the only confirmed cast member so far, and currently, the only inkling of a release date that we have is at sometime in 2023. Have a look at the pictures below.

Carmen Ejogo (Seraphina Piquery) also made an appearance at D23 Expo, appearing in the trailer for the upcoming MCU spin-off Secret Invasion. The series will focus on Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, as he tries to stop the Skrull from invading Earth. The show will be made up of six episodes and will be released in 2023.

The next two trailers take us away from D23 Expo for a bit. Netflix has finally dropped a trailer for its new animated show Entergalactic, which has been created by rapper Kid Cudi to be watched alongside his upcoming album. Jessica Williams (Eulalie Hicks) stars as Meadow, a photographer who lives next door to Kid Cudi's character, Jabari.

Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein) has also been featured in a trailer this week. She's set to star alongside Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad) and Brad Pitt (Fight Club) in Babylon, a film set in 1920s Hollywood, which was on the brink of the industry's switch from silent films. The film will have a run in select theaters on Christmas Day and will then see a wider release on January 6.

Cursed Child Cast and Crew

Last but definitely not least, we've got our final D23 Expo trailer. The Little Mermaid is getting a live-action remake next May, and the film's first trailer has been released. Noma Dumezweni (Hermione Granger) joined the cast as Queen Selina last year, alongside singer Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King (Little Women), and Melissa McCarthy (Ghostbusters). Have a look at the trailer below!
