Events Roundup: Celebrate Halloween with Wizard Week at Watercress Line and More

Enjoy a spooktacularly magical Halloween this October with a range of Harry Potterinspired events taking place throughout the month.

Wizard World in Wisconsin

Throughout October at Moran’s Pub in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, you’ll discover a pop-up event called Wizard World as an homage to the Harry Potter series. The pop-up was proposed and designed by local artist Lauren Marvell, who created all the ornaments and objects using things she found in thrift stores.

Potter-inspired games will take place throughout the month, including a scavenger hunt, a dice game, and more on October 15; beer pong on October 22; Halloween crafts on October 27; and a costume party on October 29.

There will also be several special drinks available for the pop-up, including “Irish Butterbeer,” “Love Potion”, and “Dementor.”

Harry Potter Halloween Display in California

Eerie Elegance in San Jose, California, has announced its biggest Halloween event ever, described as “a Harry Potter-themed display that showcases an elaborate re-creation of Diagon Alley(TM). The immersive home display will allow guests to sample butterbeer at the Leaky Cauldron, cast interactive spells outside nine Diagon Alley shops, sit beneath an animatronic Sorting Hat, discover Hagrid and his magical beasts within the Friendly Forest, and brave the shadows of Knockturn Alley.”

The spectacle will feature “interactive shop window displays where visitors can cast spells that cause feathers to float, chests to open, fires to light, and various other special effects.”

Glen, principal engineer at Eerie Elegance, discussed the inspiration behind it.

We really enjoyed the Interactive Wand experience at the Universal theme parks, and it inspired us to try something similar in our display at home. There’s a lot of technical wizardry behind the scenes, but we hope the result will be a fun, magical experience for everyone.

There is no charge for attending the Eerie Elegance display, but visitors are encouraged to contribute to the Halloween fundraiser for Give Kids the World, a resort where “critically ill children and their families are treated to week-long, cost-free dream vacations.”

The display runs from October 20 to 31, and doors to the Leaky Cauldron are open from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.

Press Release

Eerie Elegance Announces Super-Elaborate Harry Potter Themed Halloween Display

Visitors Enjoy Free Admission to this Immersive and Interactive Neighborhood Event

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Eerie Elegance is excited to announce its biggest Halloween event ever, a Harry Potter-themed display that showcases an elaborate re-creation of Diagon Alley(TM). The immersive home display will allow guests to sample butterbeer at the Leaky Cauldron, cast interactive spells outside nine Diagon Alley shops, sit beneath an animatronic Sorting Hat, discover Hagrid and his magical beasts within the Friendly Forest, and brave the shadows of Knockturn Alley.

Britta Peterson and Glen Simon, the creative couple behind Eerie Elegance and known for their extravagant, family-friendly Halloween displays, have pulled out all the stops this year. “After retiring from my 25-year career in the tech industry, I finally have the time to create something I’ve wanted to do ever since I hosted my first Harry Potter party over 20 years ago,” says Britta, principal artist at Eerie Elegance. “I loved creating all the hand-painted signs, paper-craft candy boxes, and detailed set designs. I hope they help people feel like they really are in Diagon Alley.”

The spectacle features interactive shop window displays where visitors can cast spells that cause feathers to float, chests to open, fires to light, and various other special effects. “We really enjoyed the Interactive Wand experience at the Universal theme parks, and it inspired us to try something similar in our display at home,” says Glen, principal engineer at Eerie Elegance. “There’s a lot of technical wizardry behind the scenes, but we hope the result will be a fun, magical experience for everyone.” Visitors can bring their own wands or have a new wand choose them at Ollivanders, free of charge.

While Britta and Glen appreciate having an outlet for their creativity, they also enjoy the excited smiles and enthusiastic reactions of their visitors. “The COVID pandemic has really taken a toll on everyone, isolating us from our friends and neighbors,” says Britta. “We hope our Halloween events have given the neighborhood a chance to connect, in a safe and fun way, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back this year.”

Britta and Glen do not charge admission for their Eerie Elegance Halloween displays, but encourage visitors to contribute to their Halloween fundraiser for Give Kids the World(R), an 84-acre, nonprofit “storybook” resort located near Central Florida’s most beloved attractions, where critically-ill children and their families are treated to week-long, cost-free dream vacations. Donations this year will be matched by Eerie Elegance, dollar-for-dollar, up to a maximum of $10,000.

Eerie Elegance Halloween opens October 20th and runs every day through Halloween. Doors to the Leaky Cauldron open from 7-10pm each day at 1194 Magnolia Avenue in San Jose. See the website EerieElegance.com for images, videos, and other details.
