New Pottermore “Daily Prophet” articles detail Quidditch, magical creatures
To the delight of Potter fans everywhere, Pottermore today opened the Daily Prophet in Diagon Alley. In the shop are the first two “live” articles written by Ginny Potter, “the Daily Prophet’s Quidditch correspondent in the Patagonian Desert.”
The first article is dated April 12, 2014, and titled “Disastrous Opening Ceremony Leads to Questions About Quidditch World Cup Security.” In the article, we find Ginny chronicling the 427th World Cup, where there has already been mayhem resulting in the injury of 300 wizards and witches.
We learn about several new magical creatures in this article, including the Dukuwaqa (a Fijian shape-shifter that can take the form of a shark or a man), river genies from the Ivory Coast, the Selma (a Norwegian lake serpent that eats humans and fish), Curupiras (Brazilian dwarves that protect their fellow creatures from human attacks), and Sasabonsams (vampiric Nigerian creatures). There are also mentions of creatures we have been introduced to before, including Inferi (apparently brought as the Haitian mascot) and Billywigs. Ginny also seems to have gotten an exclusive interview with Chief Consulting Magizoologist Rolf Scamander – though this shouldn’t have been too hard, seeing as he is married to her dear friend Luna!
The second article is dated April 13, 2014, and details the first match of the Cup, Norway vs. Ivory Coast. Norway won the match, but it was not without its problems: it seems that several fans, still upset over the catastrophe involving Norway’s mascot the day before, tried to jinx one of the team’s Chasers.
