Oscar Nominations, plus Oscar “Harry Potter” collection

by Sophie Reid · January 15, 2015

Despite being nominated for a total of 12 Oscars, none of the Harry Potter films ever managed to pick one of the prestigious awards up. Now, a new Harry Potter collection has been released on the Oscars website, highlighting some of the key moments from the history of the film series. The collection includes some great nostalgic pictures, so make sure that you check out the collection here.

The Oscar nominations for 2015 have also been announced, and unsurprisingly, several familiar Potter faces feature in various projects. Last week, films including Potter stars were successful at the Golden Globes, so hopefully there will be some more winners among these nominations!

The Grand Budapest Hotel, starring Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort), is nominated for nine awards: Best Picture, Best Director (Wes Anderson), Best Original Screenplay (Wes Anderson and Hugo Guinness), Film Editing, Best Original Score (Alexandre Desplat – Deathly Hallows composer), Best Cinematography (Robert Yeoman), Best Costume Design, Best Make Up and Hairstyling, and Best Production Design.

The Theory of Everything, which features David Thewlis (Remus Lupin) is nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress (Felicity Jones), Best Actor (Eddie Redmayne), Best Adapted Screenplay (Anthony McCarten), and Best Original Score (Johann Johannsson).

Design team, MinaLima, who worked on the Potter sets, have also recently been hard at work on the set of The  Imitation Game. The film is nominated for Best Picture, Best Director (Morten Tyldum), Best Actor (Benedict Cumberbatch), Best Supporting Actress (Keira Knightly), Best Adapted Screenplay (Graham Moore), Film Editing, Best Original Score (Alexandre Desplat), and Best Production Design.

Mr. Turner, which stars Timothy Spall (Peter Pettigrew) is nominated for Best Original Score (Gary Yershon), Best Cinematography (Dick Pope), Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which features Stephen Fry, the narrator of the British audiobooks, is nominated for Best Sound Editing.

Maleficent, which features Imelda Staunton (Professor Umbridge) and Miranda Richardson (Rita Skeeter), is nominated for Best Costume Design.

Captain America: The Winter Solider, which features Toby Jones (voice of Dobby), is nominated for Best Visual Effects.

Finally, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, featuring Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), is also nominated for Best Visual Effects.

Congratulations to all of the nominees! The awards ceremony will take place on February 22.

Are you pleased with the nominations list? Is there anyone you think who missed out? Let us know in the comments!
