Jason Isaacs’s “Stockholm, Pennsylvania” premieres at Sundance, plus new promotional video for “Dig”!

by Mary Wojcicki · January 25, 2015

Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) has had several recent projects of note, one of which premiered January 23 at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The film, Stockholm, Pennsylvania, sees Isaacs playing the role of a child abductor. As the Wall Street Journal‘s Speakeasy blog writes,

The film ‘Stockholm, Pennsylvania’ is a disturbing drama about a young woman named Leia who returns to her parents after living with her abductor for 17 years. Instead of experiencing a joyful reunion, the family struggles to reconnect.

Written by Nicole Beckwith, Stockholm, Pennsylvania stars Saoirse Ronan as Leia, who

[…] must alternate playing a captive ‘daughter’ to Ben (Jason Isaacs) and a withdrawn stranger to her real mother, Marcy (Cynthia Nixon).

Additionally, Variety writes,

[Leia’s] almost benevolently portrayed captor, Ben McKay (Jason Isaacs), stole her from a playground when she was only 4, spinning all sorts of strange stories to discourage her curiosity in the outside world and maintain control

and that

Leia’s parents, the Dargons, are strangers to her, while her bond to Ben remains strong — an obvious symptom of Stockholm syndrome, the lingering-attachment phenomenon that lends the film its title.

Photos from the red carpet can be viewed here.

Meanwhile, in the upcoming ten-part USA Network mini-series Dig, Isaacs plays an FBI agent stationed in Jerusalem:

When Peter Connelly, an FBI agent recently stationed in Jerusalem, begins investigating the murder of a young American, he realizes that he has uncovered an ancient international conspiracy that threatens to change the course of human history. Certain that the dangerous prophecy is nearing fruition, Peter must race against the clock to unravel its mystery.

E! News has released the latest promotional video for Dig, which also stars actress Anne Heche as an FBI boss. (You can watch the trailer for Dig, released in December, here.) In the clip,

[…] not only do Heche’s Lynn Monahan and Isaac’s Peter Connelly log some play time together, but we also get a look at just how deep this Dig goes—we’re talking secret societies, millennia-old conspiracies, religious conflict, and a growing pile of casualties.

Check it out here:

Dig premieres March 5 at 10 p.m. on USA.

What do you think of Stockholm, Pennsylvania and Dig? Will you stick to watching Jason Isaacs as a villain, or will you watch him play a heroic role in Dig? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
