UPDATE: Emma Watson receives BAFTA Los Angeles award

UPDATE: The actress was given the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year at the BAFTA ceremony which took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Thursday. A filmed tribute featuring J.K. Rowling and Alfonso Cuaron singing the actress’ praises was played at the event.

“That was really overwhelming for me to watch,” said Watson. She added that the British film industry “hasn’t just been a workplace for me — it was where I grew up.”

The actress related the story of her pet hamster Millie’s death during production of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’ Stone. The movie’s prop department built her a prop coffin. Dedicating her award to her late hamster, Watson said: “Rest in peace, Millie. This one’s for you.” You can check out some pictures of Watson at the ceremony below.

In addition to Watson’s achievements, Mike Leigh who directed Mr. Turner, starring Timothy Spall, won the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Direction.

Emma Watson is set to be honored with a BAFTA Los Angeles award in November. The actress has been chosen as the recipient of the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year. Previous recipients include Helena Bonham Carter, Kate Winslet, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Watson, who yesterday traveled to Uruguay as a goodwill ambassador for the UN Women’s Agency to deliver a 4,000-signature petition to parliament calling for greater political participation by women, will collect the award at the BAFTA LA ceremony, which will air on BBC America on Sunday, November 2.
