Daniel Radcliffe Discusses Upcoming Movies, Hair Extensions, and the “Potter” Cast

by Gauri Pandit · November 1, 2015

It’s been four years since Daniel Radcliffe last appeared on screen as the Boy Who Lived, bringing to life a character that impacted many lives, including his own. Just when you thought you knew everything that there was to know about the 26-year-old actor, his recent interview with Nylon gives you a glimpse of his post-Potter lifestyle.

In this somewhat candid interview that brought us phenomenal new photographs of him, Daniel Radcliffe discusses his latest work, why his Instagram account has only 15 followers, and his recent obsession with Haruki Murakami, the Japanese author, among other things. You can read the full feature here.

Since his final appearance as Harry Potter in the second Deathly Hallows film, Daniel Radcliffe has taken up many challenging projects – on screen as well as on Broadway, proving his versatility as an actor. In this interview, he discusses his role as Igor in Paul McGuigan’s Victor Frankenstein and the hardships that come with wearing hair extensions for a film.

If you’re willing to put in the effort, I’m full of admiration, but I just couldn’t do it.

He goes on to talk about the set and the “intellectual debate” about the film:

I like the fact that it’s a studio movie with these big sets and sequences, but there’s also a cool intellectual debate going on—our innate fear of technology and the fear of people who push it beyond where we’re comfortable with it going—it felt like a nice combination.

While he doesn’t actively mention his peers from the Potter cast, he is known to be in touch with them and talks about his relationship with Tom Felton:

We give each other shit via other people. So if I’m doing an interview, and he’s about to do an interview with that person, I’ll say, ‘Ask him about Bryan,’ and Tom will know what that means.

He also speaks about Emma Watson’s HeForShe campaign with admiration, although admitting that he assumed the issue wasn’t something that was prevalent today, due to his progressive upbringing:

I think it’s fantastic that she’s bringing attention to it and adding to the conversation. I also find it bemusing, honestly, maybe because I have cool parents with a very equal marriage and have had good role models all my life, but I thought this was done.

Daniel Radcliffe has certainly been busy since his Potter days, accepting vastly eclectic roles, including the one in the upcoming film Swiss Army Man, which is about a man stranded in the wilderness who then befriends a dead body and takes it on his journey to get home. In his interview, Radcliffe describes it as “super weird,” “intoxicating,” and “the craziest thing I’ve ever done.”

What do you think of Daniel Radcliffe as Igor in Victor Frankenstein? Are you excited about his intriguing role in Swiss Army Man? What do you think is the craziest role he has taken on? Let us know in the comments.
