Hugh Mitchell Doesn’t Think Colin Creevey Deserved to Die

In the latest episode of EW’s BINGE podcast, which is currently revisiting all of the Harry Potter films, actor Hugh Mitchell, who played Colin Creevey in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, boldly makes the case for why he thinks Colin didn’t deserve to die in the Battle of Hogwarts.

Others had actually filled him in on his character’s fate before the actor got the chance to experience it for himself. He explains,

When the final book came out, I wasn’t the first to read it, and people were going up to me going, ‘Oh, I heard about what happened. Are you okay?’

Despite Mitchell understanding that Colin could sometimes border on the side of annoying, he doesn’t think the character deserved the fate he was handed in Book 7. He says,

There’s a sort of prevailing opinion that I think J.K. Rowling got a bit trigger-happy toward the end — she got a little bit like, ‘Oh, screw it, kill him as well,’  — I think there’s a certain poignancy to Colin’s death just because he was that picture of innocence and also bravery — the whole thing of sneaking back into the castle. So yeah, a lot of people were pretty cut up actually about Colin’s death.
