From Wizards to Hobbits: Anthony Boyle Joins Cast of “Tolkien”

by Megan Fischer · September 6, 2017

All of us here in the wizarding world know Anthony Boyle as the wonderful Scorpius Malfoy in the original production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (and now the Broadway production as well!). It looks as though Boyle may be taking on a different kind of role, however, since he was cast in a new biopic based on the life of J.R.R. Tolkien, the celebrated author of books such as The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

The film will be directed by the Finnish Dome Karukoski and will also star big names such as Lily Collins (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, The Blind Side) and Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Warm Bodies)! It will center around the life of the immensely talented Tolkien and give viewers an inside look of his genius mind, as well as other factors surrounding his life.

Tolkien, written by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford, explores the early life of the novelist as he finds love, friendship and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts. When the horrors of World War I envelope [sic] Tolkien’s life, they threaten to tear this ‘fellowship’ apart, and he questions the very meaning and purpose of his art. Instead, he finds a way to use these experiences as inspiration for his famous works, among them The Hobbit and [T]he Lord of the Rings […].

Nicholas Hoult will be portraying Tolkien himself, while Lily Collins will play Edith Bratt, Tolkien’s future wife. No announcement has yet been made as to whom Boyle will be portraying, however.

Boyle took to Twitter to express his excitement.

always been a fan of lord of the rings. very excited about this! https://t.co/VhSopYGipd

With the amazing story of Tolkien combined with Boyle’s acting chops, it’s bound to be a delight! We can’t wait to hear more about his role in the film.

Are you excited for the biopic? Whom do you think Boyle will be playing? Let us know in the comments below!
