Return to the Dark Side with General Hux in “The Last Jedi”

by Megan Fischer · September 22, 2017

Every successful franchise has to have that one character you love to hate. For us, that character is Domhnall Gleeson’s General Hux in the rebooted Star Wars franchise. We’re not used to disliking a character Domhnall plays since he won our hearts as Bill Weasley in the final two installments of the Harry Potter films. However, there is no denying that Gleeson truly brings another level of evil to his character. While we don’t like his character, we do love how he plays him.

We all saw his incredible portrayal of General Hux of the First Order, alongside fellow baddie Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), in Star Wars: The Force Awakens when it came out in 2015. When we left General Hux in The Force Awakens, he was fleeing the self-destructing Starkiller Base (thanks to that meddling Resistance force!). Now, be prepared to see him on the big screen once again with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which comes out on December 15, 2017.  Odds are, you’re probably counting down the days until the highly anticipated second installment comes out. We know we are.

Recently, Domhnall has been speaking out about his character and what’s in store for the final chapter of the franchise.

With such a huge project like the Star Wars films, marketing is a very important part of the whole picture. One thing the world has noticed, however, is that General Hux is absent from most of the marketing for The Last Jedi. Domhnall doesn’t seem too extremely phased by it, however.

I don’t think there was much out about me for the first one either. I’m not one of the bigger characters – Adam, Oscar, Daisy and John are up front, and then it’s a big line of people ahead of me on the call sheet, so I certainly don’t take it personally. I think they know how to market Star Wars, so I’ll leave them to it.

He was featured heavily in marketing for The Force Awakens, though. You can even take home a little action figure to add to your collection (if you don’t own it already!).

We were treated to some stills from the upcoming film recently, and Gleeson is included – looking quite stone-cold evil, we might add.

There has also been a lot of trouble keeping a director for the last film of the franchise, which is still untitled. Recently, it was revealed that J.J. Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens, will be returning to direct the final episode. Many fans were excited by the news, Gleeson himself included.

Just as a fan I’m excited for J.J. to do ‘IX’ because he did such a good job on ‘VII’. So I’ll look forward to seeing it or being in it, depending on whichever it is. There ya go, talk about hedging your bets!

Unfortunately, with all the turnaround of directors, the film has been pushed back to a December 20, 2019, release date.

We’re so excited to see Gleeson’s return to a galaxy far, far away in December! What are you most excited to see in The Last Jedi?
