BAFTA Nominations for “Paddington”, Oldman Wins at Critics’ Choice

Awards season is well and truly upon us, and this means that we’re drowning in award nominations and wins. But when that involves our Potter alumni, we don’t really mind at all.

Firstly, the BAFTA nominations were announced last week. We were thrilled to see Paddington 2 (produced by David Heyman and featuring Dame Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Sir Michael Gambon, and Imelda Staunton) walk away with many nominations, including for Outstanding British Film, Adapted Screenplay, and Supporting Actor.

Darkest Hour, with Gary Oldman, has been nominated for an amazing nine awards, including Best Film and Outstanding British Film. The Shape of Water, with a score by Alexandre Desplat, has also been nominated for Best Film.

Elsewhere, The Death of Stalin (Jason Isaacs) has two nominations, Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool (Dame Julie Walters) has three nominations, Beauty and the Beast (Emma Watson) picks up two, Victoria & Abdul (Sir Michael Gambon) has one nomination, and finally, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Domhnall Gleeson, Warwick Davis) receives two.

The awards ceremony will take place on February 18 in London.

The Critics’ Choice Awards took place on January 11, and we were delighted to see that Gary Oldman walked away with the award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. The film also won for Best Hair and Makeup.

Also picking up awards were Fargo and Wonder Woman (both featuring David Thewlis – Remus Lupin) for Best Actor in a Made for TV or Limited Series (for Ewan McGregor) and Best Action Series, respectively. The Shape of Water also picked up an award for its score by Alexandre Desplat, in addition to three other awards.
