Eddie Redmayne Would Love to Tease Us About “Crimes of Grindelwald”

by Alison Siggard · February 21, 2018

Unfortunately, he can’t.

However, what Eddie can tell us is what it’s like to work with J.K. Rowling, as well as the filming schedule and his other upcoming projects – and he’s been busy!

In an interview to promote his new film, Early Man, Eddie gave some insight on what it’s like to work on the Fantastic Beasts set, including what was different about filming Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. He says that the second script (written by Rowling) is “most intricate” with “extraordinary threads that pull you back into the world of Potter and collect the beasts lore.” So it seems we’ll be seeing more ties to Harry’s story, as well as more beasts (something that will cause many fans to sigh in relief!).

Beyond that, Eddie says he finds it incredible to work with Rowling.

What is amazing about working with Jo is that she does it because of how passionate she is about her characters. It oozes from every pore of her and you feel so inspired, basically, working on one of her pieces because you know how much she cares about every single character.

He also mentioned that Rowling’s visits to the set always include a crowd of actors asking for her advice on their characters – something she is always willing to give snippets of – as well as lead the story in the direction she sees it going, “but always with the sort of caveat that it could change.”

However, when asked if he could tell anything about new beasts, it was a confirmed no – but not willingly! “Mate, I would so love to tease lots of things,” Eddie said, laughing. It seems we’ll all just have to count the days until November when secrets will be revealed!

Beyond his role as Newt Scamander, Eddie spoke about his role in Early Man, his upcoming filming of The Aeronauts with Felicity Jones, and why he took some time off between Beasts films, when his daughter was born. You can read the full interview transcript here.

What do you wish Eddie could have told us about Crimes of Grindelwald? Let us know in the comments!
