The “Crimes of Grindelwald” Teaser Has Arrived and We’re All Freaking Out

by Victor Chan, Zoé Fleury · March 13, 2018

Four months after the reveal of the title of the upcoming installment in the Fantastic Beasts film series, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, we have our first teaser trailer. Crimes of Grindelwald, the second of five planned films, will introduce a plethora of new characters – most notably Hogwarts’ renowned Transfiguration professor, Albus Dumbledore – who, along with some familiar faces, will have to navigate a world in which the Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, in possession of the Elder Wand, is gaining power.

Here are some initial reactions and thoughts on the teaser from the staff at MuggleNet.

Megan Fischer, News Team Manager

Dumbledore: ‘Look, Newt, I just can’t get into this with my ex-boyfriend. It will get too messy, so I’m gonna need you to go deal with it if that’s cool? Tell me if he says anything about me… but like, don’t tell him I’m wondering if he’s thinking about me… okay, bye. Thanks, buddy.’

Richa Venkatraman, Lead Editorialist

I have about a thousand questions. How did those people Apparate onto the bridge? I thought you couldn’t Apparate inside the grounds? Did Jacob ever actually forget? Why are Tina and Queenie separate from the gang? What did Dumbledore order Newt to do? Why can’t Dumbledore face Grindelwald? Why does it have to be Newt? Was Newt on Dumbledore’s orders in the first movie too? What is Credence up to? Why is he so mad? I’m going to watch it a thousand more times now!

Gretchen Roesch, News Team Intern

Umm, it looks amazing. HOGWARTS. Dumbledore and Newt talking was definitely a highlight. There were beasts!!! Lots of them!! We got to see all the old characters and the new ones, and they look amazing. Basically, I am super thrilled and can’t wait for November.

Nathalia Vélez, Editorialist and Copy Editor

HOGWARTS!!!!

Felicia Grady, Senior Copy Editor

1. Hogwarts, I’m about to cry!!!! 2. Where is Queenie?? What happened to Queenie?? Is she not prominent because she’s secretly with Grindelwald, noooooo. 3. ‘Are you going somewhere?’ ‘No, we’re going somewhere.’ ‘*cheers*” <— New ‘I wanna be a wizard’ moment.

Lila Riesen, Creative Team Intern

I was so excited to see Hogwarts was in this one – even for a little bit!
I’m not sure how I feel about Jude Law as Dumbledore just yet… I’ll have to see more of him to feel some sort of connection between him and the Dumbledore I already know so well. Grindelwald looks terrifying.
I love it. Can’t wait.

Jennifer Creevy, Content Editor

*heart swells* ‘Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.’
YOU CAN’T APPARATE OR DISAPPARATE INSIDE HOGWARTS!!
Is that Leta and Theseus entering Hogwarts?
Who tore the postcard up? Who is it from/to?
Deluminator ?
I still don’t know whether or not Law can feel like Dumbledore to me. Part of me says yes while another part is shaking its head sadly.
That bird looking over Jacob’s shoulder is the best part of the trailer IMO. I feel its look is the embodiment of me trying to get through life as normally and non-awkwardly as possible, and I love it.
‘No, we’re going somewhere.’ ‘Yes!’ is sweet.
? There’ll be wizards over/ the white cliffs of Dover… ?
Like the red spell at the end.
Looks absolutely gorgeous and magical, but if I’m honest, I don’t come away as invested in the actual plot as I would from a really good trailer.

Aureo Potts, Content Editor

– Hogwarts is sooooo pretty. I just love those shots of it.
– You cannot Apparate inside of Hogwarts! Read ‘Hogwarts: A History’!
– Deluminator!!!!
– Why are they always on rooftops?
– Also, Jacob and Newt are working together.
– NEW BEASTS!
– Underwater action!
– What is that in the subway/canals? So much writing!
– The circus looks amazing.
– Pickett is back!
– Flying horses – connection to Beauxbatons?
– Crazy wand action – what sort of spell is that, even?
– ‘Hedwig’s Theme’!

Albus Dumbledore, I WANT YOU.

Holly Peckitt, Lead Editorialist

The opening shot just felt like a ‘welcome home, friends.’

Alison Siggard, News Source Coordinator

-THE OPENING SHOT. IS SO PRETTY. I CANNOT.
-So where is the border of being able to Apparate or not?
-THOSE 1927 HOGWARTS STUDENTS AND UNIFORMS. I’M DYING.
-Who are these people??? Is that Leta walking into Hogwarts?
-SECRET MESSAGES IN RIPPED-UP POSTCARDS??
-Deluminator!!!!!!!! In London, too…
-A girl in one of my classes when we watched it: ‘Wow, Dumbledore is hot.’
-What’s with the roofs???
-Who are these dudes flanking Dumbledore??
-Why is Dumbledore in the Defense Against the Dark Arts room?
-That’s Grindelwald at trial, but where?
-That statue is moving behind Tina…
-What is the bird? Is it an Augurey?
-So they’re in the case, but there’s a case? Did Jacob bring Newt some goodies?
-What is the creature behind Jacob? Also, JACOB!!!
-So Credence can control when he lets the Obscurus out?
-Is that building with the zodiac the French Ministry of Magic?
-QUEENIE LOOKING KINDA EVIL. I’M NERVOUS.
-This dancing thing… What’s happening here?
-CLIFFS OF DOVER!!!
-NEWT UNDERWATER! Riding a… what’s that?
-Secret light-up messages in the Metro???
-Someone’s after Credence!!!
-PICKETT, BE CAREFUL!!
-Those bird things that Credence frees… are they what the Maledictus becomes?
-Who is inside the exploding building?
-TINA AND NEWT RUNNING TOGETHER. HELLO, MY LOVES.
-Umm, ARE WE GONNA SEE BEAUXBATONS???? Those are their horses???
-And who is chasing them on brooms???
-‘IT HAS TO BE YOU.’ (cue me screaming)
-Why can’t Dumbledore move against him?
-What are Newt and Theseus doing in a graveyard???? What spell is happening here??
-OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOSH.

How did you react to the teaser trailer? We’d love to hear your initial thoughts on it!
